Project: Problems

My build has finally gotten out of the planning stages and into effect...but as the project name suggests it hasn't been at all smooth. And not just normal problems either Oh no, I've run into almost every problem under the sun.

After ordering my Motherboard/CPU and RAM kit it showed up late and at the wrong shop front. So into my toy car I go (Nissan Skyline, mostly plastic so mostly a toy). After getting to the shop I impulse buy a Western Digital 1 TB Black Caviar HDD.

*Arrive Home after long hot drive in a small black car in peak traffic* After taking a few pics for this build log I begin pulling down the old system to make way for the new. *fast forward 1hr* old system out, new Motherboard/CPU and RAM kit all together and awaiting a new home in my old case :nono: PROBLEM even though both boards are ATX and the case is a ATX form my pretty blue new Gigabyte boardis too big...f**k.

*Back into small hot car and a new PC store* After a quick look around I fall in love with a Thermaltake V9, its 23cm fan on top, the window in the side, all perfect. And to top it off large enough to fit twice as much gear as what I have.

*Back home again, My Skyline is not built for this...* Start on my build again, Gigabyte Motherboard fits perfect with room all around, Case has more HDD slots than I have money for Hard Drives.

Both my old and new HDD's are slotted in, my DVD player has found a new home along with my PSU and of coure MB/CPU/RAM and GPU. Time to start plugging everything in, older IDE HDD first, now the newer SataII. All of the minor leads and plugs coming fom the PSU...but wait my DVD uses the same plug as my IDE HDD...F**K! only one of those slots on the board.

*Back into the little black workhorse* Drive down to a local not to cheap PC store to buy a IDE to Sata connection.

*home...again* before plugging in my new adapter I decide to plug in the main 24 Pin conector from my PSU to the MB...F*****G W**K S**T its not long enough!!!!!!!!! The fact the this case is much larger and the PSU is mounted at the base and not the top means its just too short.

Day 1 of this build is a complete disaster.

*wakes up with eye twitching* maybe today will pan out, spoke to soon. After trying to find a extender to the main power I give up and swap my budget PSU for a new one...with longer cables, my search for a PSU leads me to the Corsair HX620W.

All problems sovled, everything is long enough, everyhthing fits, everything is mounted and ready to roll. Double check EVERYTHING and get read to go *slowly moves towards the 'Power' button on the top of the case, pushes it and* Nothing:eek:, nada, not a thing:(. Scratch my head a few seconds and then notice I didn't flick the switch on the back of the PSU... Turns it on and trys again, with the same result.

*Plays around with the power button connector to the MB* Trys again and all systems are GO!:worship: My new gaming rig starts moving more air than a political debate, air is coming out the back colder than whats its going in. Its all perfectly silent too with only the smallest of hums as it starts up.

But ofcourse this isn't the end of this saga, none of it is conected to a screen let alone a mouse or keyboard, this has just been the testing phase.

To be Cont......

On par with nothing going planned I currently have no internet and am using a close friends to let you know im still having problems....

Try testing everything to check if there is faulty or bad component in there and check if you plug something wrong in the wrong place.

found the problem with the internet, nothing to do with the computer, but infact my wireless broadband usb stick. they dont have software that supports 64bit XP, so off to complain later on. other than that it is running super fast. I will have pics and benchamarks up as soon as I have it connected to the internet.
