Well I really like this forum, so as it seems I going to be sticking around I thought I'd show you a project I've been working on for a while. I decided I wanted a new case to house a water cooled system but i couldn't find one spacious enough, so I decided to try and build one from scratch.

I started out with some 1" angle aluminium

with a little help from a welder friend I had a cube. so I ground down the welds and ended up with this

this gave me the basic frame for my case, a masive 50cm square

Ooooh looking good. Are you going to split it into two compartments like a MM case or have it as one huge cube?

what you making the sides out of?

front, top & back will be 3mm thick aluminium with a pattern on,

Sides may end up perspex not to sure yet.

the bottom section is going to be sectioned off for the radiator, reservoir and pump.

very nice, bet it will look stunning when finished:cool:

thought about sanding the bottom section plate to a more mirror finish?

i reckon that would make it look even better:yumyum:

Raging.

I may concider things like that later, at the moment I'm just concentrating on getting it built.

oooo ive just started a project identical to this :) can i ask where youre getting your aluminium from? and the rough £ per sqm ?

I wanted to make a computer case for My Technogly GCSE project, but my school hasnt got an aluminium welder, and i didnt want to build it of of mild steel, way too heavy.

Yea looks good mate. Keep it going :D

TIG welding is a very specialized skill, even with the welder you would need someone who has lots of skill using them, usually someone who specializes solely in the use of them, which is why i'm trying to make some sort of bracket system, its proving very difficult. What are you using Hodgstar? is it that metal putty stuff?

Awesome project Hodgstar, can't wait to see some more pix. I like how you have the bottom compartment setup for watercooling, very good idea. Great place to hide your pumps, radiator, res, etc.

Keep us updated on this one, I want mooore :)

I got nearly all my metal for this case off a friend who was moving house. He had to clear out his garage as his new house didn't have one, so I dipped in big time. I got all sorts for 2 crates of beer:D :D :D

here is a picture of the case upside down with the bottom panel removed so you

can see how its setup.

I made the rad shroud

and the bracket for the pump myself

:)

I wish I had the skills to TIG weld or the like. I made a tower of sorts out of aluminum angle and I now use it as a desk as it didn't look to good.

No updates untill late Febuary:mad:

Unfortunately due to my chosen line of work I am now in Iraq and won't be able to play with my cube project untill late feb:rolleyes:
