Project - Feuer und Wasser

I've still got speedfan on startup for the systray temp as hwmon doesn't seem to have this

Learn your software ! Just add an entry to the startup folder of Windows, job done.

I didn't know Speedfan did. I thought it was just an ugly icon that you needed to double click on.

Everest may be your friend, but gosh DARN it's complicated and over done.

Update 18/09/10

I finally got hold of a power extension cable (ended up getting a AKASA braided one) so have been able to get everything installed properly.

I quite like some of the cable management features of the case and was able to hide/route the 24pin ATX cable and the PCIe power around the back. I also tried to hide the 8pin extension.

Love the aluminium front of the case

I've also had some UV Cold Cathodes arrive

Update 18/09/10 part2

8800GTS - extreme clean

I decided to remove my GPU heatsink and replace the compound as the temps didn't seem that brilliant and it looked dusty even after using some air duster.

On removing the heatsink I saw this:

How thick is that compound?
ohmy.gif

Not much dust on the board which isn't surprising as the cooler covers most of the card.

Once the heatsink was removed it was a lot easier to blow the dust out using the hole thats next to the copper part.

I removed the compound and cleaned the core.

As I'm a bit anal about stuff, I decided to also clean the dust off of the PCB

temps seem a bit better, will prob take some time for the compound as I used Arctic Silver

Holy cable management batman
ohmy.gif
Deffo need to try and do some tidying in there dude, Im know Im anal about this kinda stuff but it really doesnt take much and it makes it all look so much better. Same with the water, if you cant have short lengths of hose make them tidy dont just shove them in.

most of the cables are hidden, there is a mass of molex connections atm for fans but am going to cut those off and use something to distribute 7v to all fans

there's also the cables going to where the cpu is which have lots of molex connections, only option to tidy those more is to cut them off so there's one molex.

Will prob cut the tubing down a bit once I'm happy with the layout etc, looking at maybe mounting the pump as I've only got it sitting on a neoprene stand atm.

Also might be changing the top for a XSPC restop.

I made a few changes/tweaks yesterday,

Moved the 120mm on the rear to the inside of the 240mm radiator so it's blowing air directly onto the GPU/mobo, running it at 12v as it seems silent.

Installed more UV Orange coil to the tube going to the top radiator and also tidied it up a bit.

I might make a new molex lead to go from the psu to the mobo so I don't have loads of molex connectors next to the cpu
biggrin.gif

Also need to look at doing some sort of distribution of power to fans to remove all the molex cables. (I have some fan controllers but might just run the fans at 7v)

I've updated the first post and added a costings sheet.

I also need to install the UV cold cathodes.

I've not been using this system for a while as I moved the components into a air cooled case for insomnia and haven't bothered rebuilding it.

I've got some new components and will hopefully be building it again

There's my new reservoir

I've cut the tubing down also.

Also have more new components to go into it.

I might even get round to sorting out the wiring

Will hopefully be able to play games on the PC again once it's built.

I've got most of the new hardware installed now

Still need to tidy the wires
biggrin.gif

Just spent a long time re-installing operating systems and restoring data (still need to restore my VMs)

I'm amazed at how much quieter the WD Caviar Green HDD is
biggrin.gif

It makes my Samsung F1 sound stupidly loud

Just an update to this system
biggrin.png

I've not really needed to upgrade at all as I rarely play games on it at the moment & spend most of my time booting into linux.

I have just put in a different CPU and have been playing a little with overclocking.

I put in a e8400 and it's running at 4GHz on 1.23VCore
biggrin.png

Might push it further but it seems pretty stable at the moment.

Running a lot cooler than the e6400 but I guess that is to be expected.

If I get BF3 back on I might have to push it a bit more
