Project CuB

+1 for that. :)

EDIT:
Quick question if I may: I just recently again went through your NZXSPC log and you mentioned something about
a bad start with the Alphacool fittings before you decided to go with Bitspower. Since Alphacool make such nice
shiny copper fittings which would fit pretty much perfectly with my build I was wondering what that bad start was,
i.e. what sort of trouble you had with them. I've had a few for a couple of months now and they seem to be doing
fine in the tests I've done, but I would be grateful for any additional info before dropping all that cash on them. Thx! :)

I was a bit surprised myself when I had an issue. Basically I ordered a load of barbs and rotaries in the deep black. When they arrived the quality of the finish wasn't great, in some places the black finish didn't totally coat the fitting for example. The other problem I saw was that there were cracks and splits to some of the mating surfaces on the rotaries, meaning that had I used them leaks would have been a given.

I was assured that this was a one off quality issue, a bad batch as it were, and given others experiences with Alphacool products, and my subsequent review of one of the watercooling systems i'm happy with the explanation.

If it helps, i'm also thinking of using their copper fittings so I do have faith in them

Damn, should have told you hey were crap then you wouldn't have used them.....Bugger

That does indeed not sound like the few fittings I already have. The finish is not
100% flawless on all of them, but as far as I can tell it's not the copper plating which
is the issue but sometimes the actual brass fitting structure has a few flaws in it.
But nothing which would affect function from what I've been able to tell so far (I've
used them in a few test loops and they have worked well so far).

I have however noticed that I will need to give them a clear coat to prevent them
from tarnishing, the ones I've handled a lot to test out ideas are already rather
dark. (not a tragedy since it's a reversable process, but it does prove that the
plating is actually copper, which is nice I guess)

I've been planning my loop since last Friday and my head is starting to smoke.
I've actually considered going with black fittings as a contrast to the copper tubes,
but I think I'll go with copper fittings, they do look nice and shiny. Or black. Or copper. Or...

Dammit! :cussing:

One thing is sure though: This is not going to be cheap. :o

I appreciate that you didn't. ;)

Thanks for the help! If we had rep around here it would now be given.

Strange...mine were ok.

The compression fittings dont match at all with the rotaries, the rotaries were a gloss black and the comps were a matt black. Completely different finish altogether.

Interesting. :o

FYI: The finish on the shiny copper fittings does match between all the different
varieties I've had the pleasure with so far, in case anyone starts getting concerned.

Second coat of primer/undercoat went on today.

The case is rotated and inverted between each coat to ensure even coverage.

A good old flat and a few more coats to follow, then prep for the topcoats. Gonna be at this for a week ant least.
