Post A Picture of Your Last Purchase

Yup that soldering thing is badass.

Just remember to put some more on so it can grab it. It was kinda sunk into the holes so yeah, need to add a bit more.

Nice job!

I'm on an advisory committee for the local community college for the computer related degrees. At the last meeting I brought up that I hate how our industry is throw away. If something stops working we chuck it out and replace it, most of the time not even knowing what went wrong with it. I said we should be fixing things we can fix. This is a perfect example of what I was talking about. Basic soldering skills and electronics troubleshooting would be an awesome class IMO.

They looked at me like I was stupid. A few even laughed under their breath. One instructor said, "Sure, I can see students trying to solder chips on laptops. That'd be fun. /roll eyes" For one you'd use a hot air workstation for that, not an iron. For two, it's amazing how close-minded people in the tech industry can be.

You should have corrected him and made him look like an idiot at the same time making the specific reason why you should offer that class clear since not even the "committee" members know.

We only have a few meetings a year, but I'll definitely bring it up again. Next time I'll bring some specific examples. Might need to borrow AlienALX's post ;). I think it's important and worth teaching. I did tell them to youtube Louis Rossman as homework.

Telling dumb people to just Youtube a specific person unfortunately won't help, as they either don't, won't or will understand, or all of the mentioned. You need to actually treat like they are a child, as in show them exactly what you mean on a kindergarden level for them to understand and once they do understand, you'll have won.

This is what I've needed to do for extremely basic things in my line of work as a security guard.

Perfect example on top of my head, worked at one of the most prestious schools in my country, you basically need straight A's to get in. The highest score is 20, lowest is 19.7 and you need to be in between to pass and get accepted.

So basically top students. That's atleast what you'd think. Yet, the students were so dumb that they were literally smoking right under a smoke detector. And they wondered why I came running when the fire alarm went off and why the fire department came along as well...

LOL, so true. It was more sarcasm when I told them to watch those videos. I don't expect them to do it at all. Community college caters to the lowest common denominator and they pretty much said that.

I actually attended after high school and received a 2 year degree there before transferring to a University. Years later they asked me to write a letter about how a college degree is crucial to get a job. I did the letter, but the only thing crucial about a degree is getting you a job interview. It doesn't prepare you for a career whatsoever. Needless to say, they didn't publish my letter. I believe an education is valuable, but this bs we're all spoon-fed as children should stop. Most people would be better served by attending a tech school that teaches trades and really prepares you for a job.

It's mad isn't it?

That mouse cost me nigh on £80. The only other time I have ever spent that much was on a IBM Lazer mouse in about ooo, 2000? 2001? IDR but it was the first commercially available LM and I literally wore a hole in the bottom of it using it on a wooden desk. Wore straight through the skid plates and through the plastic. I had that thing years.

I've had this one about 3 years but at £80? I expect at least double that.

Does make you laugh at the hypocrisy though doesn't it? Kids ranting on about how we've destroyed "their" planet whilst simultaneously throwing everything in the bin and actually getting off on some weird fetish about peeling yet more plastic from these disposable items.

Der8auer made a fantastic point about it a month or so ago. TBH? I'd never even thought about it like that but he is spot on.

Imagine how much wildlife dies just so that some weird little pillocks get to spend 30 seconds peeling it off?

It's why I cannot take most people serious when it comes to environmental topics as more often than not these people are utter hypocrites "you're evil for owning that item or doing that action" while at the same time buying the latest trendy item every year and doing anything else social media tells them to.

The psychological point of it is if they can point fingers and scream at other people then the attention is no longer on them, Virtue signalling is nothing more than a diversion tactic.

Just blind capitalism and brainwashed people sadly.

This whole "ASMR" BS being spouted now makes it even more weird. And the term "satisfying" being hurled around.

It's just all horse crap designed to sell more and more to dumb people. Like yesterday. The human hedgehog (Jayzabellend) puts up a video saying it was SATISFYING. Eh? What planet you on mate? Satisfying is stuffing down a steak. Satisfying is taking a huge crap. It is, and never will be, satisfying to watch some bellend build a PC in silence. Never was and never will be.

But every one is chucking that word around now. Like this fake restoration videos. Mmmm, satisfying. What? To sit and watch some one butchering something for ad revenue? How in the Jeff is it satisfying to sit on your dumb ass watching someone make money from your dumb satisfaction?

Christ if people are that easily satisfied these days we're screwed. Why actually do any actual work when you can sit and watch some one else?

Yeah, I personally normally enjoy his videos for his humour etc, but even I found that kinda odd and uncomfortable to be honest.

My buddy Gary (PUBG team mate) is 64. He's a very recently retired mech engineer, and the type that don't exist any more. He hand built a Lotus Caterham rep in his shop out the back of his house, and is currently restoring an old Triumph car.

Any way, toward the end of his tenure at his job in an engineering works they must have hired about 10 kids. All of them quit when they found out it was, you know? work. One went through the transition from male to female and when a couple of the old buggers made a joke about it "she" quit too.

He sadly concluded that in around three years the company won't exist any more. Because they just can't get any one in who is willing to learn and work. They all walk in with their college degrees thinking they know everything, but know absolutely nothing.

It's heart breaking really.

People just want their life too easy now. I can understand why. They are all spoiled and very well looked after by their parents, and they look around and see people on Twitch and Youtube making a sound living doing very little.

I really liked the kid on The Retro Future. Elliot something? then recently I watched a video where he bought a house to restore to sell. He made it sound like he had barfed up both kidneys and a lung, and how he lost friends etc. Jesus man the drama FFS. My brother's mate has been doing that since he was 17. He is now 51. He has multiples on the go, and has grown it into a huge company. Yet this kid does one, almost dies, and then makes a video saying how he wants to be his own boss and etc and do his own thing. Problem is what he is basically saying is he wants his cake and eat it. IE, he wants to have an easy life doing a couple videos a week and making bank.

If you thought about that when I was a kid? you'd have just laughed. That was a dream, not something within reaching distance. We all knew that life sucks and you have to work hard to get what you want. Now though? LOL working hard is the option every one seems to want to avoid like the plague, like it is literally the black death and will make your teeth fall out.

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250 Ohm, The wire for 1 of the earcups became loose and slid out, Must have been a loose solder inside, It's completely repairable but I need to get a soldering kit, In the meantime I bought a brand new one so I'll have the fixed one as a spare.

The fact Beyerdynamic have said they will keep making this as long as the company exists speaks volumes about this headphone, Replace the soft earpads with leather earcups and it makes the bass even better ^_^

PREUP Condenser Microphone Kit, comes with everything in image for £20 so i figured why not, it might not be the best in the world but 50% reviews say it's good and it'll be better than my headset for when i'm doing certain things, they always clamp my head and after taking it off i feel like i'm still wearing it lol but hey it was cheap so worth a shot :)

Update: surprisingly good and all set up and working fine with noise compression VST I use :)

Cuts out all that background noise works wonders, Think RTX voice without the need to give nvidia a red cent :D

Otherwise I got some tortillas salsa ramen and energy drinks :D

£20 for all that ? That's a bargain !

On a side note I asked Corsair if I could get a hold of the AM4 "Elite Retention Bracket" that replaces the horribly cheap AMD plastic clips that are on every single AMD board no matter how expensive.

The Corsair rep sent it to me free of charge, Attached it to my Corsair Capellix AIO and temps actually dropped 2-3'c on the 5800X3D, Now it could've been down to a re-pasting but it was only applied a few weeks ago and I always use the spreading method to get an even coat so I'm putting it down to more evenly spread out pressure from the bracket.

Yes and it works really well for that price the bracket and stuff alone is a bargain but the actual mic is good :)

It was needed for when i stream which atm isn't happening, i have a girl friend to worry about now lol

So the streams are different lmao :P

Whilst I adore my Hunstman Elite for every reason it's too big. Far too big. I find myself splayed out playing PUBG and constantly hitting the mouse on the jog wheel which causes all sorts of havoc.

I probably wouldn't usually notice, but on my other rig I have a TKL Huntsman TE and it's night and day.

Looked for the cheap TE and there aren't any ATM so I got one of these used for £50.

Then I wanted some white keys. Fancied some pudding keys, but money. So I found these for £5.

The reason? customer return.

A thieving customer lol. I don't want to change either the top row or numbers, just QWERTY down to ZXC etc. You can't use stock key caps on larger keys on Razer boards because they have proprietary mechs with extra support bars. I will also put the arrow keys on, after giving it a full strip and clean.
