The Google Nexus phones are quite good.

Especially if you want a stock android experience or want to heavily customize your android phone.

Sony xperia z1 comes to mind, I think it has a sd slot. I'd personally get a nexus phone. Why is an micro sd slot a nessecity? Surely you can fit everything onto a 32gb nexus 5??

well i have a 16gb s3 with a 16 gb sd card, so i need at least 26gb of usable storage. an yeah that is a bummer, you cant change the battery either i hate that all phones are doint that at the minute

You can buy my S3 from me. ;)

I'd look at the Sony Xperia range, couldn't be happier with my Xperia Z. But if it's possible I'd wait, there seems to be a lot of new phone ideas coming out this year, although what the typical month for phone releases (if there is one) is I don't know, could be Q4 14. :|

Far better than the Galaxy S4 and the battery is probably the best on the market.. 3000mAh battery is enough to last 2 days of heavy use.

Note 3 is a 3200mAh ;) and easily lasts 2.5 days with casual use. :) I personally usually get 2 days or so out of it. So refreshing compared to things like the iPhone batteries.

Also threads like this are not good for me, this is a subject were if I see something I like I head over to three.co.uk and place an order, I've just finished paying off the iPhone 4 a few months ago, I've got my S3 on contract until November. My Xperia Z until probably a year to go in June/July.

Yeah, not healthy for me!

That 3200mAh battery in the Note 3 does sound good SuB. It's about time they start making batteries more advanced, they need to be lasting longer than one day, even two.

Thing is mate, you're effectively running a low-power computer/laptop off-of a battery that fits inside a phone.. people who go on about how their nokia 100 lasted for 2 weeks on a good charge are daft..

Phones now have full colour well-lit displays, various radio antenna's (5+) wifi, bluetooth, NFC, etc etc etc

They leave it on all day and expect the thing to also last through a gaming session on something like Anomoly 2 etc.. it's just daft to expect it to last that long..

Good example, I had an iPhone 4s 2 phones ago. It wouldn't last the day under usual usage scenario, which is fine because I used it a lot..

Once I retired it, I put it into airplane mode, turned BT off and dimmed the display down as far as it would go, and basically turned off all the antenna's and wireless stuff that I could... and used it as an alarm and I shit you not, it lasted an entire week and a half on a single charge... in standby almost the whole time.

It's all about how you use the device and what you're prepared to do to keep it alive. If you really are a heavy user, by a recharge pack/bigger battery :)

Thats a good point, but I after I take mine off charge in the morning, it took it down to about 94% when I went on it at 7am say in the evening. Thats with no usage from me, I don't bother with FB, Twitter and all that until night because I get fed up of checking them otherwise. Since I put Android 4.3 on the other week, same usage scenario but not by the time I check it, again with no usage, its down to 86%. Quite a big drop for some reason.

If I go to my Sisters house, say over a 10 hour period by the time I get home I'm on less than 60% from going there with 100%. I tried the feature of disabling all data activity whilst the screen is off last week, only calls and texts could come through, and it was still down almost the same amount. I don't know what it is there but its a killer, I literally can't use it there.

You need to figure out your requirements and then look for the handset that fits. For me I wanted a large display and a long battery life so after having a look on GSM Arena at the reviews / battery tests I settled on the Note 3.

With regards to the expandable memory; I know what you mean. Having the 32gb phone and a 32gb card gives me a lot of storage but in truth, it's a lot of music I hardly listen to and a lot of pictures I haven't uploaded. I could manage with half if I could be bothered.

I find all phones at the moment to be very similar and the whole experience very anti-climactic, I went from the S3 to the Note 3 and I don't think it was worth it. I think any phone would be the same.

Since your phone is broken it is worthwhile, I think next time I upgrade I'll just go for the Nexus. It's cheap and does everything all the rest do and I'll use the money I saved on a holiday!

In short I recommend the Nexus 5 (used) and save your money for better things.
