People who pretend they know loads about computers :@

I have a mate who claims that he overclocked his FX 8150 to 4.5 GHz and it never gets over 55 degrees with the stock cooler :p

Also; His way of overclocking a GPU:
1. Get Afterburner
2. Bump up the clockspeed
3. Play Far Cry 3 for 10 mins
4. Check temps

Yup, it must be stable now, wooo :D

/facepalm

Oh, and of course he's running FC3 on max settings at 60fps with his HD 6850

LOL .... I know someone very similar to this and now when he talks I put my fingers in my ears! :P

i hate those people. framerate spikes to 60 for a split second while looking straight up in the sky? solid 60 fps mate, fuck your 670, my 6750 can do the same.

Just remembered many years ago after I first got married in 2000 my wife mum bought us a laptop. It was for the wife really, her mum hated me. We got a great deal on a Toshiba. Got it home and all was good until I hooked up the Ethernet cable. I could not get the card to turn on. Of course I did all I should have. I took it back to Best Buy. I had a hell of a time getting a sales person to understand the issue. He finally called a guy from the Geek Squad and he told the guy to have us bring it up to the tech repair counter. Took him a while to understand, IT DOES NOT TURN ON, THE NETWORK CARD. Of course I'm told I did something wrong and he went on and on. I very calmly told him to hook it up and try it, if he is incapable of doing that, get the store manager. He came back with a female, her badge said, Assistant Manager. I had to explain the problem a third time. She started to say something and I interrupted and told her, "Hook it up, try it, it will not work, it is that simple." She turns to the tech guy and asks, "Can we do that?" The Geek Squad dude, "Uh, yeah." They hooked it up, messed with it 20 minutes and could not get it to work. BTW, a couple other "experts" from the Geek Squad had come around too making suggestions. My wife was getting pissed, by then I was shaking my head and smiling. It got to be funny. Other people waiting are shaking their heads. Finally the manager girl said, "OKAY, STOP, it is obviously not working!" She says to me, "What do you want to do?" I told her I wanted one that worked and not that computer. Ends up they were out of them, they'd sold out due to the great deal. Best they could do was upgrade me one level and it had to come from their Benton Harbor store in Michigan. They'd have it in the morning. I lived in Michigan, this Best Buy was across the border into the state of Indiana, closer than Benton Harbor. I got there the next morning, the people didn't have a clue about a laptop coming from another store, they had to call around. They got me the computer 2 hours late.

I'm good at going on-line or for calling corporate to complain. I called the 800 number. I'm also good at building up how bad it made me feel. Told them the long boring story and how unhappy I was and my being a computer expert I felt insulted being questioned multiple times and basically told I was an idiot without them actually saying it. Then after I was proven to be right, nobody apologized for all the time I wasted there. Then the next day them knowing nothing about the replacement and my waiting (actually I left, got breakfast and came back) just piled on to the insult. I got an apology, a $50.00 gift card and a free 3 year service warranty. Never had to use the warranty. :) Last place I'd want to take it is to that Geek Squad.

Just remembered...I had already connected via wireless and registered the first laptop before I found the Ethernet problem the night we got it home. About 2 weeks later I got an e-mail reporting the Toshiba had a faulty network card and it had been replaced, fully tested and returned to the Best Buy in Mishawaka, IN and would be there at the repair desk for me to pick it up. They gave me a case number to use, I was to print out the order and use it to pick it up. Just for a moment I thought of going to see if I could pick it up. :) Damn, I'm too honest! I called and told them I already had a new laptop from them as a replacement, that one was not needed.

Keep meaning to go into local currys and ask them about RAM timings and clock speeds and see if they can keep up.

Also on their own website they say that more memory on a graphics card makes it faster, so all their PCs are crammed with 2GB low end cards just for the bigger number.
---
One of their £600 desktops comes with a 630M GPU and It's advertised as being able to game
---
Argos are just as bad, "upgrade (for £70 if I remember correctly) and get a super fast HD6450" they rate is 5/5 for gaming.
---
Friend got a zoostorm PC then got our schools IT department (friend of a friend of a friend's dad) to upgrade it with new GPU and PSU, good idea I thought, apart from our schools IT dept not really knowing how computers work.
They went and got a 6870 (good choice) but then some absolute bargain basement PSU that (unsurprisingly) broke. They then upgraded it to an 800W corsair model. I mean there's overkill and there's 800W for a machine that probably uses about 300W full load. He ended up spending tons of money on it in the end just to get it working and all the time me and even another friend from school (the one mentioned on page 8, he actually knows about computers now) had been saying we'd do it for cheaper and do a better job on it.
But his dad didn't trust us despite us both building our own PCs without them breaking.

People think you need to be a genius to build pc(which flatters me :)) but it's really not hard at all. Legos for adults is what i call it.

@Robi_G My laptop has a 630M :P, it's not "that" bad. I've installed modified nVidia drivers (because they stopped supporting it with their latest updates). I can play most games on medium settings. I was quite surprised actually.

As for PCWorld/Currys... I only go there to "view" either a TV or Laptop I would eventually buy off the internet for cheaper.

Big difference between 1366x768 (standard laptop resolution) and 1920x1080 or similar on a desktop.
I have a 540m in my laptop and it can run most games fine in that. Wouldn't want to imagine that running a 1920x1080 screen though.

I agree, I usually run the games in 720p to gain a few more fps.

I just saw this ad for a webshop on the Dutch eBay...
'Overdrive Gaming PCs, the best PC store out there'

And then I saw the pictures:

I don't even...

Is there even any fans on the top rad ? If you look closely it looks like you can see the mesh grill above the rad. Any why on earth is the ram cooler over half of each set either side ?

"Hey, HEY GUYS! I just found this cooler with LEDs! I'll just put it on the motherboard heatsink here and it will look all cool and stuff!"

Not to forget that poor excuse of a power supply :p
Suddenly my ATX board in my Trooper doesn't seem all that bad ;)
Yeah, I agree :p

Some other things I noticed were some of the poor comments about AMD on youtube, mainly stuff that's just completely nonsense.
"FX9590 will require 220w tdp and no mobo can handle that so they'll also need to make new mobos!"
"The 3770k kills the FX8350 in all the games with a higher-end card like the 7970/GTX680!".

Stupid people :p

Similar to that ^^

Just searched google images looking for a picture of a reservoir and this came up:

EK-Multioption-RES-X2-008.jpg

Looks like he didn't notice the pre-cut tube holes right next to where he's cut through the case either.

Not sure what the bigger fail is, the missed tube holes or the bigger problem of mITX (I think) in an 800D

This is hilarious. The tube is actually bigger than the motherboard...
