Whilst I wait in the wings for either AMD or Intel to improve on their lastest manifestations. I also await, DDR4 (and/or quad channel), USB3.0 (standard), SATA3 (standard), and PCIe 3.0.
Now, thinking today of PCIe 3.0, there are opinions that apart from the huge increase of "bandwidth", loosely termed, they say it's more power efficient - and yet I've also "heard" possibly can provide more power.
With those possible contradictions in mind, as we look at the current releases of gfxcards from AMD, they're not letting go of this bios-switch. That and 'technically' they're not PCIe 2.0 compliant due to their power use.. (which doesn't really matter as the additional power draw comes from 2x 8pin connectors). 3.0 compliant ??
.. I have a sneaking suspicion, that whilst the world is looking at this bios-switch in terms of how they can flash their gfxcard and so-forth - perhaps the real picture is that in-house, AMD are already dabbling with their new chipset mobos that also include PCIe3.0 ? Contractually perhaps they can't divulge this atm as there is ongoing work with their partners.
On the immediate horizon are Intel servers equipped with PCIe 3.0.
Anywho, get some new tech out !
