So im building my own case from wood, please see my work up to now via this link http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?t=75571
But i also need some advice on trying to mount the case fans. Only two of the four mounting holes in the fan line up with a surface to screw onto on my ventilation panals because of the holes in the wood, is there any ither way of mounting without going through the specified screw holes? I was thinking of using a hot glue gun. But id only use that as a very very last resort. Any help would be really appreciated, please see the link above for my build log to get an idea of what im asking about, cheers

Is there no way you could take the fan mounts from an old case and attach that to the vent panels first, then you would have a neat way of attaching the fans without the use of a glue gun.

I could do, but my old nzxt is the 240 phantom, all one metal body, including brackets which id have to saw out with a hacksaw. Bit messy i guess? Im alao upping from 120mm to 140mm on the intake and exhaust fans to fill the gap, so that only gives me a possible 3 brackets from my old case

Alternatively could you add some thin wood strips (like rails) to the vent panel to mount your fans to?

That is a smashing idea, this could work pretty well if i can do it shallow enough, im hoping to get the fans as flush as possible

Whats wrong with a long self tapping screw?

The problem with that sir, is that the holes on the ventilation panels are staggered, so the idea is in between the holes i can screw the top of the fan in, but when i go to screw the bottom in, the fans screw holes lie over the open holes in the vent' panels

I guess you could call this ghetto mounting. Black cable ties around opposite corners through the holes in the vents, if it wasnt for the flash on my phone you wouldnt be able to easily notice the cabel on the outside panel, not a perminent fixture, but i guess it will do for now

so i may have come up with an even better solution to zip ties, and this doesn't just tie in for fan mounting either. this could work with so many different fixtures i.e mesh covers, wiring, even for aesthetics etc.
Anyway im sure you've heard of the cool flexible mould-able compound called suguru? yes?, no? well if you have huzah!, if you haven't here you go https://sugru.com/magnet-kit i think this is the solution im looking for in my build to help me fit my fans flush against my vent panels,it makes it easy if i ever want to change out my fans, plus the compound will stick to anything, including wood and plastic!
