Painting anodised aluminium

i believe oven cleaner will absorb the anodizing out of the alloy. moroso in the day only had

gold anodized valve covers and we easy-off'd the covers and then they were shiny aluminum.

it all depends on the depth of penetration. usually a good is 10-12mil, quick anodize gets to

6-8mil deep.

I also used WD40 as it helps loosen the soft anodizing whilst sanding.

I got the ft03 and I actually really like the black so I'm not going to paint it but I've got some other ideas

Personally I have found that sanding and an etching primer was fine until now..

Could I get you oven cleaner and WD40 people to elaborate on the necessity of that part of the process?

I'd hate to think that I've screwed things up in the past.

prep - etch prime - prime - colour - (clear if you use it)

and etch prime is NASTY shit you dont want to be doing it yourself. Take it to a body shop and make sure they wet sand & polish it for you too.

AS Tom said, Acid Etch is very nasty stuff. If you don't know what you're doing, get someone else to do it for you.

Does the etching primer not give paint enough grip?

Is there a specific reason for the normal primer og the layer of etching?

etching primer is used on bear metal . having sprayed some etching primer first u don't need to spray normal primer after.

I assume people above describe etch primer as nasty stuff because if u breath it it's very harmful. a good respirator mask is needed.

I use a breath mask. I used to have a lot to do with rattle cans if you know what I'm saying.

I just need to know if I need to know anything about a second layer of primer on top of the etching stuff.
