P5W DH cmos battery

Lo all,

Reaching the cmos battery on this board to clear it can be a real pain, especially if your gfx card has a large hsf or water block. Heres how it sits in my rig...

...but you can reach it fairly easily without having to take out the top gfx card by using a long thin screw driver. A bit of seal string on the battery and it is also easily replaced...

I think I'm going to make a cmos battery extender using a dead motherboard so that the battery sits away from the motherboard totally.

Strike while the iron is hot as they say so heres my improvised cmos battery extender...

...just need to find some small clips for the ends of the wires now. I will use this in all mobos now as the cmos battery is always a pain to get to.

Another posibility would be to run a switch across the battery in the mobo, which would be quite cool alternative

Isnt there a switch on the P5W so the battery doesnt need removed? Or is the switch just as blocked as the battery?

I think it is that blue jumper in the bottom right of the first picture, to the right of the screw and above the SATA connector.

I keep jumpers with those extra plastic extensions on top to use for places like that, otherwise i always drop them and spend forever looking for them.

Yes thats to clear the bios after you have unplugged your computer and taken out the cmos battery.

There was something in the manual about some clever way of clearing the CMOS totally, or just parts of it. I didnt get into it in much detail, didnt need to at the time, and sold the board so cant check.

Short circuiting a battery is not a "cool" thing for sure!!

Putting a switch in series with the remote battery socket would be fine.

I wasn't suggesting shorting - if you use a one sided terminal between one of the motherboard contacts and the battery, you can put a switch in series with the battery
