Overclocking - Worth It?

This may sound dumb but when you overclock a chip do you actually notice the difference in gaming, or it is just numbers on some measuring tool?

So is it worth getting the 2500K over the 2500? There seems to be little difference in the price (10 squids)

For 10 its always wort it imho and games that uses the CPU will of course benefit from it....
 
When I first got my 2500k I ran it at stock for about a month until i got a CoolIT ECO, I then OC'd to 4.3ghz and I definietly noticed an improvement in speed. Since getting my D14 last week I bumped my OC up to 4.6ghz and I have noticed speed improvements again, only minor, but you do notice them. The £10 is worth the extra if you ask me plus when your system is a couple of years old the overclocking will help keep it up the standards of that time.

Anyway, we don't OC for practicality we do it because we can

yes ocing is worth it imo just don't think you can break world records.first time out, and do as much reading about it on your platform as you can find before you start.

I noticed that. I guess a lot of you take joy from building, customising and pushing your rig to its limits.

I get it from not having 0FPS rate when getting a bit of lightening rendered on a game.

From what I understood the 2500K is really for the P67 boards as they support overclocking where the H67 don't. The H67 support onboard graphics instead of overclocking and therefore better suited to the none K processors.[/font]

Well better suited is perhaps not the term I would use, but yeah that is correct. And then there will be Z68, which will support both, just to make the picture complete. However Z68 has not yet been released.
 
Z68 sounds pretty pointless then if your planning on adding a graphics card. Sounds like its just an upgrade to the H67 more than the P67. Well from a gamers point of view I guess.
 
my i5 750 at stock frequency struggled often in Crysis, sometimes in Bad Company 2. OC'd to 3.8 Ghz it's good and 4Ghz+ with 200-210 bclk we're craking the wip

Hi mate, in short, its well worth it for £10, heck I'd happily pay £20 for the K version simply because of the overclocking potential, it does make a difference. Check out some reviews.
