Just placed the order with Dabs, should be getting one of these delivered on friday: Sony Vaio FW

I got a 2ghz/4gb ram/400gb hard drive model, but of course, I plan on shoving an SSD in there ASAP :)

Ill make sure I get some pictures up as soon as it arrives.

i dont know what you want people to say:)?good for you?:p

well, I was hoping they would say you made a good decision, and hopefully wont say you made the wrong decision. I just wanted to see what people thought of the laptop. It also means I have a thread for some lovely pictures.

Review, review, review! :D

I don't know about a full review, but a members review with some thoughts, a few benchies and lots of photos is definitely on the cards.

i remember seing a post of when u was choosing a lappy, or was that some one else:)? As far as laptops go and for the price you pay I do think the vaio is the way foward:wavey:

Im not really sure what you mean, but if you are asking about my decision, then it was largely based on aesthetics. I have a desktop pc, but rarely use the raw power. Therefore something smaller made sense, and with an SSD in there it should be faster than my desktop.

Im not saying vaio is for everyone, but if you care about aesthetics like I do, but dont like macs, it was the only reasonable option I found.

^yep... very fair point

vaio's have always been generally overpriced from a hardware perspective, but there is no denying the beauty of it and i guess that it is what you pay for.....

think apple take that philisophy too far really.... for me the aesthetics of macbooks does not counter its ridiculously low spec....

EDIT: what model did you get?

Yeah, I'd love to own an apple, but for the price, and the fact it uses Mac OSX the sony was the clear option.

I got this model model, which is far from the top model, but after an SSD has been added should be plenty fast enough :D

that looks real good man.... one thing to do is take off all that bloatware that comes with it; whoever thought of bundling mcafee and norton trials with every single bloody laptop should get their heads chopped off :)

oh yeah they get on my nerves so much, people stick with them as well??

I plan on removing practically everything.. It comes with a free upgrade to win7 as well, which I shall look forward too :)

@ Ghostbud: if you compare the vaio and mac on looks, I reckon i'd go for mac, but for a laptop I'd actually pay for, I could never justify a mac.

mac's are a decent bit of kit but as you said the price is just pure ripoff, ive had my fair share of laptops and when my friend phoned up one day and said "ive got a mac book pro!" i just put the phone down, thats how much i despise them lool

I'd install Leopard on it anyway :p

But seriously, the viao u got isn't as expensive as I thought it'd be, and apart from the keyboard, it looks like a macbook :p

SSD ? definitely enjoy ur comments on it after installation. Did u think about getting something less than laptop with a 400g if ur gonna replace it ?

Having said that, get urself an external kit and put the 400g in it ;)

Be sure to backup the system as it arrives with u so u can re-apply it should u come across any problems, u can claim as much non technical ignorance as u like then if u have to return it.

Looking forward to some articles :D

Ill certainly let you know how it goes, although im unsure when I will be getting an SSD, as it depends on a number of things, most notably money.

The 400gb model is the cheapest I could find, but as you said, a caddy sounds like a good idea, I shall have to look into that.

Ill make sure I keep you all upto date with my findings, and upload lots of pictures etc.

Looks like a really nice laptop mate. I may have to look at getting a new one if me replacing the keyboard on the missus's Dell doesn't work out. I'll most likely grab a netbook for her though and shove Linux on it so I can be sure that she doesn't infect it to the point of dead stop!

aha, my dad has the Samsung NC10 netbook, Im actually really impressed with it. Although it's no speed demon, it's much faster than I expected.

The only thing with going to a laptop is Im really going to miss the audio from my tower, and the external Asus thingy really doesn't look that great. If anyone knows a way of getting decent audio from a laptop, please please let me know.
