OC3D Radio

Or we could just save the money and listen to our own Winamp lists?

It does seem a lot of hassle and expense for something that wont give OC3D a higher profile.

Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm.

there must be a simple way around this, there are a few sites that I visit that have there own radio feeds and I dont think they could really afford to do it if the cost is as high as it looks at first glance

7 listeners average. A few friends of me ran Travianradio which was quite known on a faily large IRC network, but at most times of day you only have a few listeners.

But indeed, it isn't a lot. Might be worth dropping a PM to the sites who do have such a radio.

Yeah I've been researching the cost too, and initially I was shocked but there does seem to be a couple of things we can do. I'll post up my finds shortly.

I reckon a better feature would be video reviews
We have discussed these in the past and it's something that we'd like to provide in the future.

Don't really know much about the costs but instead of traditional DJing, how about inviting people to create and then upload their own sessions/ playlists with programs such as GoldWave ? Once the tunes have been converted/ mixed, pre recorded voice overs could be incorporated. Might be interesting to get different taste's from around the world.

Hmm prerecorded voice overs aren't as good as live ones. As said, I've ran travianradio where we used both and the live was WAY more popular, although that was partially because the listeners and DJ were both on IRC, enabling listeners to influence the DJ by making requests or even a 'raad de plaat' aka 'guess the track'.

Shoutcast is free to air, no need to be all pro and money wasting about it. Try this out for say a month and then maybe accept donations on behalf of loads of new features?

The problem is the tracks being copyrighted. You need to either pay a fee or for a license to be allowed to broadcast them.

I know that but surely having it private won't affect anything.

Id listen but yeh, copyright has to be an issue

Video reviews would be awesome tho

Would love to see my favourite reviewer's in all their glamour lol

Pirating would indeed not make a difference as long as it's non profit and you do not have 200+ listeners. However as OC3D is quite making a point against piracy I think it wouldn't really be appreciated :p

do you really still have to pay royalties though since the dj's would be playing tunes they already own so....?

its a nice idea to get the radio back up if its possible,i wouldnt mind doing some dj'ing again,

sx radio...ahhh those where the days :p

Raging.

Even if you just use a soundbite of a track which is copyrighted, you would have to pay royalties for using it. As DJ's use existing music and just mix it, royalties would still be payable. It's not just that though, you now need a license to be able to broadcast music over the net.
