Noob overclocker

I would say like 4,6ghz on a h100 but the easiest way to check it is just overcock and run prime and look at the tempetures.

If you had a 240mm rad linked to a 3570k what sort of max overclock would be good for everyday use. Am i correct in thinking a good way to judge is to run prime 95 and see what temps its hitting.

Completely depends on the rad and the fans - and how good the chip is itself.

You can easily get to 4.5/4.6ghz on most air coolers on Ivybridge - just higher than that requires a lot more volts - which isnt really worth it on temps and life of the chip.
You arent gunna see barely any performance difference between 4.5 and 4.7ghz anyway, so I'd personally prefer to just go for 4.5ghz and run fans at very low RPMs so it's quiet

Yes i never thought of it like that. At the end of the day most of my pc use will be for development and gaming. Although gaming is cpu speed reliant it is really more of a gpu intensive task. This would mean that cpu speed mite not be the bottleneck of my system and should focus on gpu overclocking

Silicon lottery, dude; different CPUs have different stable overclocking limits. For the 3570k, from what I've seen around 4.5 GHz is about what you'd expect but if it can safely go higher, go for it.

There is NO way the guy can say what overclock to get
and i would always do this myself (so learn is the best way IMHO!) :)

plenty of guides !!
good luck mate !
