no volt overclock question

I'm totally new to this whole game of overclocking and don't want to sound like gimpy newb but I'm wondering, if you do a modest overclock on a core 2 duo and don't need to adjust your voltages to keep it stable. Provided that your temps are kept pretty low, how much damage would you really be placing on your chip?

I imagine that it would be much less than applying more voltage but can I get a ruling here from someone?

Thanks a bunch.

Well it's a misunderstood concept but, voltage won't kill as fast as heat will. Not saying that voltage still doesn't affect a CPU, but as long as it's cool you can go fairly high on the voltage scale.

Using CoreTemp, keep your Core 2 Duo under 75*C (since it seems as if the temperature programs for Core 2 read overly high.)

As for overclocking without voltage, not much damage will occur if at all. The chip will last 5+ years.

A safe amount of voltage is 1.45-1.5v on air. Good luck! :)
