i am getting a wireless network but my parents want to know about wired first.

how many mbs are lost per meter of cable?

is it worthed to have wired network when on two storeys ?

at least 20-25 m of wire will be used if wired!!

I got a wireless network on two storeys and it work great....no problems on any of the PC's I've got on our little network!!

I'm running an 802.11g setup in my 3 story house and I don't have connection problems on a single story.... It's just as fast throughout the house, always stays above 48mbps.

There's no significant speed loss going to wireless unless your wired network is going to be a gigabit network, in which case I would advise you to go wired if you share a lot of files between your network computers.

i have wired and it works finr for me, i prefer it to wireless because it has less hassle etc. no worries about signal loss at all and a LOT cheaper. what is the hassle with running a wire through the wall?? lol!

Yeah my PC's wired but the other PC's/laptops are all wireless....nice and easy!

well the walls are 25 cm thcick. that is the problem but wired loses strength every few meters?

wired doesnt really lose strength. well it does but it is negligible and because wired networks are faster then wireless anyway, they are still faster after the loss. i have a 15 metre crossover cable between comps and no loss can be noticed. like frag said his network is never below 48mbs and mine in constantly 100mbs so make your choice but i assure you you will not notice the loss in using a wired network.

Dave is right, as long as you choose some half decent cabling, then you should be fine. Wired speed loss is negligable..

300 Meters if you have a 10BaseT and 100 Meters if you have 100BaseT or something similar to that.

If not, wireless all the way. If you have thick walls you can setup repeaters that will boost your signal.

Depending on how the house is setup and how much cable you have, you can run it along the walls or you can run it across the florr if you have rugs and such as the wires wont get tripped over then

Yup... If you really want, you can lift up your carpet where it meets the wall and hide it under the carpet.

i am going for a gigabit because wireless have max speeds of 108 these have 1000
