A concern is with the memory. I don't understand this: I run 2 480's and MSI AB shows each cards memory being used, so for example: GPU 1 memory usage: 1400MB, GPU 2 memory usage: 1400MB, so I equal that to 2800MB = 2.8GB, but other forum member informed me that MSI AB is wrong, that only 1 cards memory is being used so it's only 1400MB, and it is not possible for both cards memory to be used because SLI is not designed like that.

So I think if that is true you could get a new 4GB GTX 680 for £500! Then get SLI later, so you have 4GB memory.

If it isn't true, get a standard GTX680 2GB the still go SLI later, so you have 4GB

It's under discussion, but it could also be that AB is showing 1400 for both when it means 700. Don't know the whole truth myself.

You could always just grab 1 for now and add a 2nd at a later point when its needed, as a single 680 will max every game out atm no problem on a single 1080p screen.

the rate at which technology is developing now 5yrs is kinda optimistic for nearly any graphics config. we move onto DX12 when windows 8 comes out and there is currently nothing that supports it. and TXAA is just surfacing no one knows if it'll take off or something eles we haven't heard off will replace it

although currently i'd say 2x 680 would be your best bet (wishes I could afford it
