You might think

But in the end it's 'HUGE NEWS' around the world and for just small amount of money(you think changing screw drivers in china factories cost much? ^^) they are covered all over the internet. I don't like apple because mostly it's just brand value, but I have to admit they are dam good at marketing.

Waste of time IMO. Nintendo does the same thing. When I was into modding game boy advances (adding internal front lights to screen, changing case etc) I had to have a three prong philips screwdriver. 99.99% of users won't ever take their phone apart anyway. The people who want to will pick up a $3.00 screwdriver.

EXACTLY.

Why the hell is this news?

Because it's about Apple. Anything with Apple or iPhone is sure to bring people to news sites.

And Apple uses this for free marketing/branding. I mean why otherwise they made press release when changing screws? It's just brilliant marketing.

I don't really like Apple nors it's production but I admire their marketing. Who else can use 4 years old technology(video calls) and make it selling point?

It isn't brilliant marketing. Brilliant marketing brought them to a place where something as trivial as a screw change would make the news, but I doubt Apple's marketing team had any hand in the screw change

. Apple is a buzzword along with their product names. It's no mistake that most consumers call every MP3 player an iPod and every smartphone now is an iPhone.

They are the first ones to make video calls mainstream. Using facetime is actually easier than making a phone call. A user doesn't need to install anything. They just need to be on wifi. They have also opened the technology so really any manufacturer could use it (with a fee I'm sure). I'd expect if/when facetime is available for use on 3G it will be even more popular and Apple will be hailed as bringing video calling to the phone industry (lol!).

I used video calling years and year ago when it first came out on he Three network. worked great and when i was working away allowed me to talk to the kids face to face.

Old feature brought to life by Apple though.

Mind you our lass knew i was in the pub and not " just sat in my hotel room " Honest!!

Worldwide branding is seriously expensive. Changing screws and making it world wide news - no. Since Steve Jobs resignation Apple's share prices was drooping however simple press release about screws reversed this.

As for video calls I'm yet to see people using that. Really I haven't seen any1 doing that and here in Denmark all I see are iPhone 4s around.

I don't use facebook, nor do I watch people use it, but I'm pretty sure it's being used by at least a few people

To be honest the whole video call technology is useless because there are very few situations when you can actually use it. Don't get me wrong, it's nothing bad having options but its just very uncomfortable technology. You have too look were you going, not to the phone's screen, you have too look were you driving etc.

haha true. Although, I really hope people aren't trying to do that while driving. I don't use it often, but it's pretty sweet with the occasional use. It sure beats using a webcam to talk to out of town relatives or if you want to show a friend something really quick. It has it's use for sure, but I don't think (hope) it will ever replace traditional calling.

If we talk about what people do while driving, then talking iPhone video call should be least of your worries

Gotta say I disagree with this bit in bold.. I love my iPhone (never owned an iPod) but they haven't nailed it like Hoover did with the vacuum or Sony with the Walkman where people seemed to call every tape player a Walkman.

I've never spoken to anyone who calls an MP3 player that isn't an iPod, an iPod and likewise with an iPhone.

It happens all the time. I've worked retail and I had people calling all MP3 players iPods. My brother manages a Verizon store and he complains all the time that people call the android phones iPhones. He tries to tell them the difference, but they don't get it. They ask right out for an HTC or Motorola iPhone because they hate Apple. I probably shouldn't have said most consumers, but quite a large group fall under what I said.

I am very happy with my iPhone. Once I jailbroke it I had the best of both worlds. Open source+closed, where as android is only open.
