right, guess what everybody, im starting a new project. my desktop is getting converted into a wait for it.............media centre..thats right, ive decided upon thsi list of hardware upgrades before i put together the full system, it includes:

creative 5.1 card (havent decided which model yet, probably a sound blaster), to replace my crappy c-media 5.1 card

1 gig of ocd gold ram

and finally, an ati 9800 pro 256mb

im going for a cubic micro atx shuttle case, with a nice side window curtesy of antec, ill keep you upsated with pics in the rig section when ive started

I luff my SB Live! 5.1. I've had three.

First I static-electricitated LOL.

Second I traded for a nutty Audigy..bad Idea. (That's now in the junk pile, w/the metal plate kinda bent cuz I threw it.)

Third is in my comp now rockin me out to hours of gaming and tunes every day :D.

LOVE them :).
 
what tv card were ya thinking mate?

ive been doing a lot of researhc on this lately as im thinking of trying it, interested in your choices :)
 
Nothing touches an ATi TV elite ;) the tv is incredible. Hauppauge is also great.

As for the sound... I would recommend the Bluegears card. The sound is far better then anything ever made, and prob better then the upcomming x-fi.. You guys thinking of flaming me for it? Have you tired it? No, thats what I thought ;) :D

My friend has a TV Wonder Elite HDTV Thingy, it's nice but the software is whack.
 
who uses the packaged software lol. if you are making a htpc the packaged software doesnt matter as any normal person wouldnt use it.

which compro do you have nick (and frag)

i was thinking of getting the DVB T-200 to get my freeview channels :)
 
Looking forward to seeing benchies of the new SB card. If they're good enough in games I will buy one.

As for the TV tuner - I am looking at them too - Hauppage seem to be pretty good fvm so I may get one of them :D
 
I have the Compro Video Mate PVR TV Tuner/FM, and Frag has somethin like the Compro Video Mate PVR/TV Gold (Deluxe) or something. The high-end one. I just have the regular TV Tuner, remote, kickass software, etc.

Actually yes, I had one and rma'd it ;)

About ATi's software... fuck it.. I got MCE ;) MCE pwns all teh software
 
sorry i took so long replying again guys, internet got cut off in my area i think..well, after a lot of browsing, it looks like im going for an all in wonder, not exactly the greatest, but ive had a few friends buy them and there apparantly good little cards. on the sound front, im goign for a an sb live, as...i already own one, i just nevere got round to buying it. in a day or so ill put up a selection of cases im lookign at..one of thems techinally not a media center case as its about 2 inches too big either way, but it has..a premade side window, one of the first cases that size ive seen with a side window..its an antec from what ai rememevr, a little price at 70 quid though.thatds for an all aluminium case with chrome bezel thogh:P
 
Those all-in-wonders are decent cards mate - good choice.

As for the case - post where ya got it from sounds good. Is it an Antec Aria?

Pics and links would be welcome so we can abuse your choices ;) (only kidding mate :p )

Looks sweet man - and I just knew it ;) I can see your future...it involves ingenius cooling solutions for the Antec Aria... :rollingla:

Yeah the freeview cards are sweet - but the all-in-wonders are pretty great too :D
 
haha, you betcha, im goign to get thing overclocked by a good margin on air, thqats why im goign for the aria..its one of thos cases that acts liek a large heatsink...not purpossely, but it does have SOME passive cooling

talking of passive cooling..im doing a review on the zalman TNN 300..unfortunatly, no pictures, as i cant afford one out of the box due to its 500 quid cost...i was lucky enough, however, to see it in action at a small technology show down in beamish of all places a montyh or two back, when passive cooling was the next big thing:)
