New build advice

uberkill for my needs, and too pricey for what i'll be using it for. (unless someone has lying around that they dont need and want to make a few bucks out of it!)

4.4ghz on all 12 cores will be fine for my needs, and with the bios on the msi xpower it'll be easy-peasy.

it's alot easier to OC using UEFI and a reset button.
the last time i OC'd anything, removing the battery and switching a jumper was the only way to reset BIOS. lol

4.4 is quite a big ask and will be a mixture of silicone lottery and the power that your programs may make the CPU pull.

Do you still have the farm? The Ramp is 10GBe so epic networking.

i could not afford to run the farm. parts were on loan etc... :(
that business did not go very far. (but, if you don't try, you'll never succeed).

i am trying to do as little as possible and still earn money (even when i sleep) - so writing mobile games seemed the best way to go (or make a crypto-rig. lol)

i work for a few hard weeks devving a game from scratch, then take the rest of the year off and go cycling. :)

so you're the ONE. lol

do you have a Quick Tug regularly?
have you played it since i got rid of the links to fb, in the last update(s)?
i think it runs alot smoother now. :)

TBH buddy I've not had a tug in awhile so I may need to whip it out and give it a damn good flogging :D

just an update...
i have decided on the following build:

ROG Rampage VI Extreme
i9-7920x
CMK32GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 32GB 2x16GB @3200MHz

it's a bit over budget. but i hope i will not have to build a PC like this for many years.

i have just had a death in the family, so i have to put this build on hold until after easter (hopefully).
i will post pics of the parts as and when i buy them.

update:

new budget = £3600 (approx)

so... the new shopping list =

i9-7920X der8auer @4.5 = 1224 (approx)
rampage vi extreme = 510
1tb nvme pro (for WIN64 + boot) = 480
512 nvme pro (for OSX hacky) = 249
360 aio rgb cooler (to replace 240) = 153
64gb quad 3200mhz cl14 = 909
= 3525 (approx / excl shipping)

i already have ax1200, 2x 4tb 7200rpm mech drives in RAID0 for storage, xigmatek elysium full tower.

thoughts?

It's pretty extreme but if you got the cash why not?

I would just give the PSU a good clean. Mine is still perfect, but it was very dirty when I did the last service.

i am well overdue a new PC.
i am using the Snow White mobo, with a i7-870K @3.6ghz, with only 16gb of hyperX @ stock. and with all mechanical HDDs.

the only thing i have upgraded (several times) is my gfx card.

IMHO - it is pointless getting a rampage vi EXTREME... IF you are going to put non-extreme components on it. lol

plus, it better than spending it all on lager. :beerchug:

Yup drugs and hoes is a waste of money :D

Should be a killer rig tbh. I must admit, even though my 3970x rig was a total waste of £3.5k it was fun. I didn't have any spinners in that either. I had four 64gb SSD in RAID 0 for the OS and two SSDs.

okay guys and gals... i have changed the build specs (yet again)

rampage 6 APEX
i9-7980xe der8auer @4.7GHz

i have two questions...

memory:
which would be better/faster, better to overclock,

G.SKILL F4-3200C14Q-32GTZR Trident Z RGB Series 32 GB (8 GB x 4) DDR4 3200 MHz
or
G.SKILL F4-3600C17Q-32GTZR 32 GB (8 GB x 4) Trident Z RGB Series DDR4 3600 MHz

???? (tighter vs faster)

storage:
which would perform better

ONE x 960 PRO NVMe M.2 1TB (£480)
or
TWO x 960 PRO NVMe M.2 512GB... in RAID0 (£249)

???? (if two nvme drives in RAID0 is faster... isn't this a no-brainer!!!)
