My sister's music taste.

So today, my sister got to me upstairs, saying: "Daan (that's my name), can you download some One Direction music for me?" Being a good big brother, I obviously said: "No.".
So, my parents got upstairs, saying that if I wouldn't do that, I would get house arrest. So, here I am now, attempting to download that, with my PC not helping either. Damn BSODs. Well, do you have friends/family members with the same bad taste for music? I much prefer Queen, Green Day, Blink 182, All Time Low and such over things like this.
Look forward to hear from you guys :)

Wait... your parents would give you house arrest if you do not participate in an illegal activity cause your sister wants some shitty music and she can't do it herself?

I feel sorry for you man :(

Thanks dude :p
I honestly hardly ever buy music. Only if I really like it, I'll get it on iTunes.
And my sister is only 9, and doesn't have a PC for herself.
My parents are nice most of the time though :)

I would promptly explain to your parents that blackmailing you into illegal activities is bad parenting by any reasonable standards.

I would then explain to them how to do it and make it unambiguously clear to them that should they wish to do it they should do it themselves. I would also make it clear that should you ever get into trouble any fines/settlements you'd have to pay would be passed on straight to them.

Sometimes, when dealing with unreasonable people (EDIT: or reasonable people temporarily being unreasonable /EDIT), you have to offer up a solution to their problems if you wish to be left alone even though it is not really your responsibility to do so.

My apologies, but such things sort of piss me of. I was blessed with very reasonable parents (I never had a curfew, for example. As long as my grades didn't slip I could do more or less what I wanted, all that mattered was the end result). Never been grounded in my life, nor was I ever threatened with it, let alone blackmailed into fucking illegal activities! Effin' hell!!! :cussing:

On another note, music tastes differ, evolve etc. Such is life. I have three younger brothers. Some music we all like, some is particular to only one of us. Your sister liking One Direction is not the end of the world, heck, I wouldn't even care if one of my brothers did (well, I would probably mock him a bit ).

EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm well aware that even the most reasonable and great parents make questionable decisions from time to time (mine should have divorced 10 years earlier than they did, for example. Would have spared all of us a lot of grief). That does of course not make them bad parents (it's a very demanding job, after all), however their errors should still be pointed out to them I would say, albeit in a reasonable and non-threatening manner, possibly when tempers have cooled down a bit.
/EDIT

They didn't say it had to be illegal, that was me just automaticaly doing it that way. They would've probably paid for the music, that I would just have to put it on a disc.
I guess I explained it a bit vague.
They didn't tell me to download it illegally, they just meant downloading in common.
This wasn't what I meant to speak about, it was about music taste. My parents are not to blame, I am for downloading it illegally.

Ah, I see, well then that's different of course. My apologies.

Re music taste: If one of my bros asked me to (legally ;)) download them some OD music (or even J. Bieber  ), I would of course laugh my ass off but I'd be a good brother and do it. As long as they wouldn't listen to it so that I can hear it as well I'd leave them be.

Luckily they've never done that though

However, my dad has phases when he'll listen to folk music (not just the Swiss kind, but all sorts of) or country music, which isn't really my thing at all. So I'm not completely free from suffering in that regard (I'm not saying it's bad music, just not to my taste).

To be honest, I think One Direction or JB might be easier to stand than some of the stuff he listens to simply because it is so generic that I could sort of tune it out and just let it fade into the background ambient noise. No chance of doing that with his music.

But since he's paying for my college education (for the most part, at least) and is very easygoing, kind and generous I would say I cannot legitimately complain about his taste in music.

I do have headphones, after all ^_^

yea i'd refuse, just tell them some horror story about some guy getting sued for a couple 100k€ for downloading just one album, that usually works.
my mother/brother sometimes ask me to put some music on their ipods for them, but i refuse to install iTunes so i don't do it.
My taste in music is mainly DnB, occasionally electro house and as of lately, post progressive rock and triphop/uprock, very relaxing stuff.

very relaxing stuff.

Hehe, funny thing about that: As I've grown older I've started to listen to relaxing music a lot more (leaving aside my army time a few years back when most of us officers used to do that just to not go insane. If any of our sergeants or soldiers had found out what the heck kinda of softy-music we were listening to we would have lost at least 50% of our authority  ).

same for me, i always used to be into the really fast in your face stuff, now i prefer listening to this more unique stuff. i still listen to DnB a lot, but it's nice to have a bit of diversity from time to time. prefuse73 is what i listen to pretty much nonstop lately.

That is indeed relaxing and unique. I could totally imagine myself doing a build to that soundtrack (or solving some partial differential equations, whatever ).

I like One Direction. Especially One Direction straight over a f*****g cliff.

I feel for you. Your PC is bad enough as it is without being filled with that poison.

Just last week my fiancee was having her hair done and I forgot my Android tablet and I had to endure three of their songs :S

As for relaxing? I use Citizen Cope for that.

I love Citizen Cope :D Speaking of them, one thing I love about music is the weird ways you find it, Citizen Cope for example I found by reading an interview with a guy that was killed off the Walking Dead and he mentioned then :D

Or you hear about them in a computer forum in a thread beginning with One Direction ;)

Sideways FT Carlos Santana is amazing too.

Yeah I love Cope. Made his way up singing in coffee shops. Amazing singer with some beautiful lyrics :)

wow! I thought I was the only Guillermo Scott Herren (Prefuse 73) fan. Seriously other than me and my mate no one ever seems to know who he is! Vocal studies is a wicked album too, as is extinguished outtakes. He goes by other alias' as well, but I cant remember any of them.

Sick producer!
