My friend needs a sata ssd that will be replaced in a few months.

My friend is going to be borrowing my old gaming latpop while he builds his desktop. We originally planned to get him a 970 m.2 but they are out of stock and it seems my laptop does not support this type of m.2? Im not sure if that is true but he wants to get a good 1tb sata ssd for now. This will be relegated to a secondary storage drive down the line once he builds his pc and has an m.2, so which is the best value for what you get kind of SSD?

Didn't kingston bait and switch with their budget SSDs, like downgrade the controller without renaming the product?

As far as I know the Kingston is still one of the best budget SSDs
