Motherboard trays - UK

Hey guyz, long time listener, first time poster.

I`m seeking to build myself a custom/mod, something comprizing of a "container" to house 3 to 4 pcs, with some kind of shelf sliding setup similar to a desk-draw thing.. power supplies to one side, drives to the other, and pc connections all accessible from the back, re-located plugins and on and on.. with an ambitious adding of a 2nd-hand fridge hack/mod rebuild, beer storage/air-con... hmmphh..

Anywho, I`ve seen some US sites with the likes of Lian Li motherboard replacement trays, from memory only $20 or so, and I can`t find anything in the UK as an equiv. The make isn`t important, aslong as the housing can be ATX and probably slots from agp to 3/4 pci.

I don`t particularly want to buy 3 or 4 cheap midi/mini cases and slash them up, as firstly there`s enough spare parts rattling around the house already and something that could be re-sourceable in the future would probably be a bonus.

The fact of the matter is, I build pcs, fix pcs, hardly ever leave them alone, use one for media, one for downloading, one for gaming, and presently one for storing terrras. Jam memory in, switch cards about. They`ll probably all be replaced when the project casing is built, but I happen to cycle parts from the best pc down to the music storing one quite often. Somes the cycle involves the cpu+mobo. Hence the project idea. *which is in it`s formative stage* The easiest to undo cases/setups aren`t that accessible when your lazy.

Also sourcing a UK distributor of nice USB/Audio/etc front mounts which aren`t necessarily designed for 3.5/5.25 bays and a good reliable monitor/keyboard switch system - from experience hopefully, I`ve personally had bad ones in the past that dropped one or both signals whilst switching.

Any sources in the UK would be appreciated.

TIA

Rasta

*P.S. I`d rather not have my pants brought down over the pricing*

Hi and welcome to the forums! :wavey:

To me that sounds like a 'super weekend LAN machine in a box' :D! 4 PC's and a beer fridge in one big container.

If it was some how transportable, you should start sellin em :p

Sorry I don't have much constructive input but, I'm just saying it sounds like a cool idea to me and good luck with this project :worship:

Welcome to the forums mate :wavey:

Links have been given above

Good luck with the project and make sure we have a nice build log :)

Thanx guyz, Kustom were one of the first searches that popped up when I looked UK side, I seem to be able to find quite a few flat mobo trays, but the Lian Li one I seen (I`ll try and find linkage) had.. well it was a replacement for one of their cases, in as much as when you looked at their case at the rear, the mobo tray slid out and the card slots came with them.

It`s maybe hard to explain without a pic, but u basically have the tray, rear preph rectangle and the slot plate all in one nice mold, I`m sure was ~$20, which kinda had my juices flowing in the first place. Nice `n` easy like.

I like Scan myself, but I`m trying to stay clear of a rack mount, keeping as close to a standard pc tray as I can due to messing about and switching the minor pcs a fair bit.

If I got the guts to write/draw a sketch of the concept, I`ll post it.

ST might be able to order those in for ya mate, post up a link to em in the Specialtech area and see what they can do.

oo oo oo http://forum.overclock3d.net/showpost.php?p=70861&postcount=2

I think the guy posted them pics just to rub it in my face :P :P

ST might be a viable option, as long as additional overheads don`t price me out. Although it is feasible to expend what needs to be spent, but it would go against the grain to do so.

I do have a homebase in Tx where I could possibly order them to, strip the 4 boxes down into 1 and get them to forward it. That`s likely to take a month plus, but is my highest hope so far without a UK varient. I won`t personally be there til around thanksgiving 2007.

To explain, I`m not exactly some1 who`ll see the latest Gfx card come out and have to have one. Gfxcards hit the scene at probably £150/$200 over priced, and `can` take a good handful of months before *stable* drivers that take advantage of them come out, yet alone something I`m going to want to play on them. By the time the cards are running at their best, the prices have dropped, but still not practical in my eyes. I bought a 6600GT for £100 possibly several months ago (a Scan Today Special) and I`m very happy with it, it was the only ~real~ replacement for my old ti4200 which kicked mucho butt for a very long time. (Quake killed that off)

I can hear alot of members wincing at that statement LOL, but hey it`s a philosyphy that`s done me well.

In the same breathe, ordering something and it arriving in 3 days maxmimum is the lazy persons dream. To which I am one ;)
