Motherboard or PSU not sure

Hi Guys

ASUS X99 Deluxe
Intel Core i7 5930K
Fractal Kelvin S36 Cooler
ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Strix DirectCU II 4GB x 2 in SLI
Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB 3000MHz
Samsung 850 Pro Series 512GB SSD
Samsung 850 Evo Series 1TB SSD


Main issue is the pc after working perfectly after full shutdown when I try to switch it on sometimes will not power up unless I switch of the mains supply by the socket on the walls for a few minutes giving it enough time to be clear of any power that may be remaining in the pc then turn back on and power up then works fine, its very annoying!

I have tried clearing the cmos and reset everything to defaults doesn't fix the problem, I have remove the graphics cards and reinstalled them and also the same with the memory even pulled out the cpu and reinstalled.

On another note not sure if it would be related but if I enable the XMP profiles system seems stable then crashes randomly with random BSOD's, I though the XMP profiles would work without issues.

I have run memtest86+ with no errors found and not sure if this could be motherboard or psu related or something totally different altogether.

I really thought this was fixed as it stoped happening for around a week but has now started again, its so annoying!!!!

Its a BIOS problem - nothing faulty just some things get a bit iffy.

Technically called a cold boot issue.

your motherboard has the USB flashback feature, just get a bios from the ASUS website here https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/X99DELUXE/HelpDesk_Download/ follow the instructions in the manual and you should be up and running If the most recent bios isn't working just go to an older one

You wouldn't believe how glad I am to hear that, I was thinking I was going to have to strip it down to RMA the motherboard.

I'm on the latest bios 1801 so will have to go back one, see how that goes, am off to do it now so I will post back later.

Flashback completed nice and quickly all seems good but I will see how it goes over the next couple of days and shut downs, fingers crossed!

Just out of interest would this have possibly been the cause of the xmp memory profiles when enabled giving me various BSOD's or unrelated?

BSOD's all have codes to give you a hint to whats going on. Id doubt its XMP related unless the IMC on your CPU is a bit underwhelming

I will have to test it again see how it goes normally sets 125 x 30 on the CPU when I enable profile 1 (3000MHz)

Have to try doing the bios again still having the same issue going back from 1801 to 1702 still wouldn't start after shut down without resetting the power at the mains or unplugging the power cord, very annoying....

Try running your ram at a lower speed and see how you get on - might have nothing to do with 3000mhz / XMP

Will give it a go thanks, will try fix the anoying bios issue first just went back another bios version and same problem, any ideas?

Will have to fool around with it more tomorrow it's 1am here already is Aus!

This is killing me gone back a couple of bios versions now and still getting the cold boot issue, should I just keep going back versions until it works?

leaving XMP disabled for now until I can get this fixed.

I thought the mem_ok button only worked if you cant get it to post? if I press mem_ok its turns off my pc and nothing happens then I have the drama of cold boot issue so annoying...

What mem ok does is turning off the XMP profile but relaxes the memory timings so the system becomes more stable

Il will give it another go I wouldn't think I have compatibility issues, I have the QVL at the XMP profile for 3000MHz uses the timings on the QVL, "15-16-16-39 1.35V"

It's been disabled until I can get cold boot fixed at disabled speed is 2133 still cold boot issues, should I go back another bios? This will be third I don't want to fool around with XMP rather have a pic that starts up. Right this second I'm on my mobile as pic won't power up again

Everything is on default settings in bios at the moment

I'm seriously starting to wish that I had not bought this PC it's done nothing but cause me stress recently if I didn't know any better I'd throw it off my balcony I'm that annoyed with it

Then sadly youll just have to sit tight, LOTS of X99 systems no matter what board brand can be found to have these issues....

Its normally overclocking or poor end user knowledge that causes it but you might just be unlucky I guess

If this thing was working perfectly I would be doing as little overclocking but I dare not even consider it at this stage, just did another flash back on the bios I must say I do like this feature, cleared cmos and let everything at defaults nothing touched.

I do wonder if the Asus Intelligent Processors 5 software has anything to do with it but I have not touched any setting in there at all apart from fan expert.

Good news and a bit of a surprise, anyway I decided after the last shutdown and it not starting up, rather than remove the power cable or turn of psu main switch to unplug a few things in the USB ports at the back anyway first thing I unplugged was a 1T external hard drive and bingo all of a sudden PC powers up and I haven't had the issue since, bios is back on latest version1801 and XMP enabled, just haven't had the time to test properly but cold boot issue seems fixed!!!

Ok just to provide an update to anyone that is interested as I think this maybe useful information for anyone planning to purchase Asus X99 Deluxe with this memory kit Kingston Hyper X Predator HX430C15PB2K4/16.

Just to be clear cold boot issue was fixed as noted above.

Although this memory kit is listed on the QVL as compatible at 3000MHz when enabling the either of the profiles (2666 or 3000) it causes random BSOD's under load, although all seemed fine when doing a stress test.

Basically after working with Asus and Kingston as I wasn't sure if it was me, motherboard issue or a memory issue Kingston were kind enough to grab an Asus X99 Deluxe mother board and identical memory kit to run tests themselves it turns out they had the same issues and advised as follows;

"Per our internal testing, we can duplicate the issue. We will try to contact ASUS for further assistance. In the meantime, would you please also report the issue to ASUS?"

I have now forwarded discussion from both Asus and Kingston to each other so they can work it out, I will let you know the outcome.
