I think the a8-5600k seems to be a good one for the price. I'd link the review, but oc3d main site seems to have crashed.

Note: I went over the budget a little as you seemed to go a little over in the 2 builds you linked :p

I personally think this is a little beast and cheaper than the Intel build you posted. Also... X-Fire ;)

At first I chose a different CPU but then looking back I seen your bro might be gaming on it so I went with the 6800k and the Corsair CX430 as the whole power draw without a dedicated GPU would of been around 300W.

I then changed to the Corsair CX500 PSU as the 6800k can be crossfired with a 6670 for your brothers gaming and this brings the power draw up to about 400W.

I chose a HDD and SSD and the cost is around £20 more than SSHD and you get a dedicated boot SSD and 1TB storage.

Obviously I chose 2133MHz ram as there is an APU in this build and it will benefit from this.

But... If you want to factor in the 450W Seasonic PSU, SSHD and BitFenix case the here is the alternative.

Why would you include a stand alone GPU with APU?

He doesn't need to have the dedicated GPU if he doesn't want to.

yes but the APU have a semi decent GPU in them too, which allows you to play games on medium settings too.

If he buys a separate GPU he should go for an Intel build. That is just silly.

Mid range Haswell with a cheap GPU won't be as good as a 6800k in cross fire with a 6670... Also, if he had a Intel CPU then he would need a better graphics card than the 6670, the only reason I said get the 6670 is because it cross fires with the 6800k APU. Intel with dedicated GPU to match the performance of the 6800k+6670 would be A LOT more expensive. What I linked is good for what the family plus his brothers gaming, the OPs 2 shopping baskets are good, I am just suggesting that is all.

For example, the 6800k + 6670 + 2133Mhz ram (helps the APU) would run BF3 on medium / high at an average around the 55FPS mark in 1080p, pretty damn epic if you ask me.

GPU with APU is legit. http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/systems/oc3d_recommended_system_builds/2

Regardless, I would leave out the graphics card until you actually (if ever) need it. Make sure the power supply is able to cope with the upgrade (no more than 500w) and you'll be fine. The APUs do benefit from high frequency ram, but seriously, the 8GB 2133Mhz is over kill. Get some 4GB 1600Mhz and it's more than perfect for you parents.

Thee intel chips I feel are a bit more futuree proof and will alow my brother to game when he adds a gpu in the future. Also whilst your build you suggested looks solid you have used an ATX set up. Remember this needs to be M-ITX

thanks as always though guys these suggestions are v helpful

Def agree with you regarding leaving the GPU out. As I said my 560Ti will likely go in here when i'm done with it. I'm still favouring the intel however especially because last night I was able to piece together a build with a 120 samsung evo, 500gb WD green and all the other components in my original build for 600 quid!! (shopping around isn't an issue for me). I feel if i was gonna go the AMD/APU route i'd be better off just going back a gen or 2 and getting a fast intel chip that would still beat it

H87 I would be happy to get but I can't for the life of me find a mini ITX H87 so if you can find/suggest one let me know.

Since you listed the Gigabyte Z87N-Wifi. There is an H87N-Wifi by Gigabyte. Prize difference might not be much though. I think it's abut 20 euros over here.

if he will add a dedicated card, then hell no apu. even if he will stay without it a while. also the cpu found in 5800K/6800K ,the athlon x4 750K/760K paired with hd 7770 will destroy the crossfire performance with apu + hd 6670. not worth it. however an i3 haswell IS better then x4 750K even in multithread,so if he has the budget, hell yeah.from amd get atleast fx 6300,which is similar to the i3 .

not bad,not bad.

now about the futureproofing,if you have the cash for a non K i5 ,go with it. if not get the i3,sell it in 1.5-2 years and get an i5. on FM2 you are stuck with athlons.

V helpful. Good video!! making me reconsider an i3

Should be. Just make sure if you get it that it has enough cable ports for the whole build and enough Amps to power a GPU and a little extra for everything else.

lets take a look at the gtx 560Ti. it uses 169W at peak in games. 169W / 12V = 14 amps. a good psu that has 400W on the 12V rail is more than enough. for example, a gtx 770 only uses 11W more than 560Ti.so no worries with a seasonic under 500W.

Not exactly true. You do not just divide by 12V(gets very complicated and i will not go into depth on this subject). If you look online it requires a minimum of 31A and a 500 watt PSU. Now take into account you still have to add all the other parts of the rig.
