Learning the OC craft.

Instead of a 30mm rad push pull, why not get a 55mm rad and run it with one set of fans?
Yea that's exactly what I would do and the UT60 is a very good radiator (I have the 360 monsta which is basically the same but wider).

Update on OC. I have got windows to load and have not had a crash yet. I am at 4.7GHz, 1.37 volts, LLC set to 0. I will begin stress testing to see if it is stable. I am excited because this is the first time I have gotten the system to work at 4.7. :) Thanks for the advise M&P.
Good news!

I was thinking about my overclocking experience over the last week and have been wondering if my motherboard could be a limiting factor in trying to find my max oc. Does any think that running an IB processor on a Z68 motherboard will limit my max overclock?

Yes,there`s some small differences, most imprtant is z77 chipset is specificly tailored for IB.

the flagship GD80 (in the day) had monster power phase control almost
double that of your GD45, so yes it could be a function of OC control issues.
flacky voltage control, more heat than usual, and OC stability.

would i run out and buy a mainboard to complete the OC? yes i would, but is
it necessary? not really. the only thing i could see it helping is the heat control.

I am not considereing a motherboard change atm, I am happy with 4.7GHz. Next weekend I will try to get to 4.8GHz but I will not be to disappointed if my limit is 4.7.

On the other hand I may be able to sell the Maximus IV Gene Z/Gen 3 for more then what I paid and I could get a decent z77 board. But I would rather keep the Maximus board and put my 2600k in it and buy a better atx z77 motherboard like the MPower and just put the 3570K in my main rig.

To be honest I think you will be chip limited and not mobo limited. Getting 4.5-5GHz on SB or IB is all anyone is going to get for a 24/7 overclock anyway.
