There are some listings for £325... I'm happy to wait for the price to drop, I'm actually waiting for a decent aftermarket cooler, a decent air one or maybe even one of those gay oem water ones shown (can't be bothered with the hassle of my gpu in the loop when I upgrade every few months...)
Are there any games coming soon that warrant an upgrade over a gx2? I'm bored of my rig, need a refresh. X2 is calling, E8600 is calling...

Smithy... The E8600 looks the dogs balls but is it worth you changing from a 3.6GHz 24/7 quad?? Could just wait for the Bloomfields.
I was thinking about swapping out my Q6700 for one of the Penryns but couldn't really justify it.
Graphics card on the other hand can be taken over with ya to the new X58 boards
so yeah I'll wait a few weeks until the prices of the X2 have dropped and hopefully by then we'll have an idea as to what the 55nm GTX280 has to offer. If it's still not gonna beat the X2 then I'll buy an X2 straight up. If it's looking like it'll get close then I might get the 280 just because having 1 core is easier.

I'm probably not getting bloomfield... I'd rather go on holiday than build a new rig!
The e8600's I've seen hit 4.4ghz (+/- 100mhz) on 1.35v. I think quads are useless, I watch how little usage the other two/three cores get during everything I do, I'd rather have 2 higher clocked cores. Some dude got 5ghz on air! Another 4hr OCCT stable 4.8ghz on 1.6v (granted that would kill your chip but still impresive!).
I'm with you on the gpu front though, wait it out a bit, see what is what and get whichever is best. I'd prefer a single core but I doubt the revised 280 core will be almost twice as powerful (which it will need to be) as the current core...
I'm looking at downsizing my rig. Sell the v1000b and pa120.3 and get a really small lili, just w/c the cpu (e8600) on a black ice dual rad and get the gpu (prob X2) on air.
Even though I'm earning more than I ever have, I'll be spending less on my rig and more on house/car/misses/holidays etc. Famous last words lol.

Thing is from Bungral`s pov, although the E8600 will clock higher freqs, probably bench something nice on single core tests, it`s not going to give u the feeling of an upgrade compared to using the Q6600 @ 3.6.
.. I mean along with a new install and gfxcard and so forth, u may be lulled into a nice feeling, but when push comes to it, I don`t see it myself.
Now if ur Q6600 happened to crap-out.. that`s another thing.

However once a nice X48 mobo comes out, I may think differently.

Rast - if you drop the 88GT for the X2/280, even 4870/260 you WILL feel it.
The quad didn't feel faster over the e6600 or the e6800, in actual fact the e6800 @ 4ghz felt faster than the quad oc'd , I was just fixated with benchies at that point in time so I kept the quad!
Now I just want what is best in games.
So a top end gpu with a decent dual core seems the way to go. I might keep the quad yet but I do like my gpu's

Ya I got 4 Intel quad cpus in the house atm, 2 installed and flying on what I`m considering old (but excellent) tech (35/38 series). I want to go 45/48, which will home all the cpus I have then, and frankly the first round of the new intel sockets can blow me afaic.
I got plans for the 35/38 hardware, with psu/cpu/mem/drives/gfx all ready and drooling away, it`s just w8ing for Abit (who I really want to buy off) to get their finger out. They`ve already spoken out about rumors about them dropping mobos as false, but by the time they bring their 45/48 out in UK/US, ASUS and the likes will be pushing their 58 ranges.. or so it seems and feels.

It`s all well and good to get one of the existing 48 models, I`ve eyed up the Foxconn for a trial in the wild and even the ASUS which would feel bad to me tbh, I just know it. Even the DFI.. meh. I`d just feel absolutely sick if I got an alt and then the Abit comes out.
Bleh, as far as gfxcards are concerned, I may well need 1, and in this case I would go for the greater nVidia, not x2, 280 would be it atm. I installed a ATI for some1 not too long ago, and it still `felt` strange to me, kinda like an ASUS mobo I`d still recommend them tho, price per fps.
