ケイ - Watercooled Enthoo Primo

Just a quick note: According to Martin's Liquid Lab, the XT45 will perform slightly better at low fan
speeds than a UT60, and for most of the rpm spectrum is pretty close to it.

Just FYI.

:o That's...interesting. Lol. The XT45 would be better, in his case (no pun intended ), because 45mm thick rads are what he had in there to begin with so he knows they fit.

Looking at the stats on martin's liquid lab suggests it isn't really a worthwhile upgrade. The difference between the RS and RX at 1000rpm (my chosen fan speed) is only 10W and my EX model is somewhere between these two. I don't think an extra 10W of heat dissipation is really going to be worth the £50 or so that the radiator will cost along with the time/effort needed to drain and refill/bleed the system.

That does not sound unreasonable to me

Made some more progress today. The enermax fan controller has undergone some surgery to remove the damaged pot so i can source a new part. (for anyone that may also need one, it's a 5Kohm part that can be replaced either with an alps RK09K1130AU2 or a bourns PTV09A-4015F-B502) I also took the opportunity to examine why the blue LEDs had stopped working. Nothing obvious wrong but I reflowed the solder joints as they didn't look great. I'll be ordering the parts next week and will also sleeve the cables at the same time

Upon reassembly, ta-da, blue LEDs working again. :) (the green on the top right is off as the pot is out on my desk)

I also added an additional fan to the drive bay to increase the number of intakes, which seems to have helped case airflow. It's an 80mm panaflo that was salvaged from something about a decade ago. Was the quietest fan i had that fitted (My 80mm nidec beta V, 92mm beta SL and 80mm papst vario were all too loud even undervolted) I've also noticed a distinct ticky noisy coming from the akasa amber fan, glad i planned on replacing it. (had a good innings though as i've owned it for 9 years. Fitted it to my old athlon XP barton system in 2004.)

Also got a good picture of how the coolant looks when well lit with the system is off. Almost colourless, it's really amazing how it takes on such a vivid green colour when illuminated with the XSPC blue LED.

Got carried away with the camera and took an arty shot of the GPU block. I liked it so much, it's become my new wallpaper.

Indeed, I'm still a bit puzzled why that is :headscratch:
But it does look nice.

Well, it is a very nice picture

I've ordered 4 new fans so I can sort out the case. 3 more scythe gentle typhoon 1850rpm and a 140mm enermax to replace the noisy yate loon inside the corsair.(Psu warranty is probably already void as I've sleeved the cables) I'll be visiting my local radio spares outlet to pick up 4 new pots for the fan controller this week too. I'm also considering a bitspower G1/4" temperature sensor to use in the fillport on the reservoir with an M20 G1/4" adapter. This would then gets displayed on the enermax.

Some of the new bits and pieces are here, so i will get one with sorting the necessary sleeving out and then fit them. Specialtech appear to have cocked up with the pcie extension as i ordered an 8 pin and i've received a 6 pin. It'll be a shame to resleeve the silverstone extension as it looks like a quality item.

Fans are all now sleeved ready to go in.

These are the hellermannTyton sleeves that I use instead of heatshrink. They are stretched using a special tool and then slide off over the join contracting like heatshrink would. (only real reason why i'm using them is that i already owned plenty and the necessary tool as i use them for making A/V cables)

Liking the OCUK xxl mat.

Gentle typhoons now fitted, just got the enermax 140 to sort out inside the TX650. (which i'll be starting in a minute as the fan just arrived)

Black fan guards to replace the gold/chrome ones i was using.

The enermax T.B silence fan has now been fitted inside the TX650 in place of the yate loon D14BH-12. First switch on was an epiphany moment. Namely, OMFG, at last i have silence. I've gone from an average noise level of 54dB down to 35dB. Just got to sort out this 8 pin pcie extension with specialtech, fix the enermax fan controller and finish the sleeving and it'll be finished until it gets a new cpu and motherboard.

I must admit that I didn't like this build at all in the beginning but you've really made a pretty looking computer out of it :)

It's quite the unique colour scheme, which I really like. Only thing I'd say is fix those yellow accents on the PSU (but that might just be me being picky )

Thanks, unique was the intention. I agree with you on the psu accents but don't think there's any easy way to change their colour evenly and keep it looking good. (Considered translucent paint or permanent ink) I'm not sure when I'll be sorting a new psu out, so the tx may be in there for a while.

Out of interest, what did you dislike before? (Happy with constructive criticism off anyone btw)

On a side note, I am collecting the new pots from radio spares today so I can fix the fan controller. The replacement cable from specialtech should be here today too.

Yeah I guess paint might work. Could always make a little PSU cover? :)

Just the fact that it was a miss-match of colours, like using 2 different fans on the same rad. It just looked really ghetto :p Oh, and I dislike blue PCBs but like I've said; You really made it work. Now all you need is a window in your case!

It was a bit of a mess early on, but it was certainly better than how it used to look back in the day. To give people an idea, here's how it looked in 2005 and how it was just before i moved to the CM690. A window is coming at some point, though i would prefer to retain the side panel fan(s) which isn't going to look great.

Back in 2005 it had athlon XP 2500 barton with one of the first tower coolers, a 9800XT with a zalman ZM-80HP cooler. Notice the enermax fan controller was there all the way back then. (and the amber fan)

The only differences here were the 3870, x-fi fatal1ty and akasa 400W paxpower psu.

Now have the new ALPS potentiometers for my enermax fan controller, which i will sort out later this afternoon. The shaft length is slightly shorter but it doesn't make any difference.

Wow, that cable management.
Indeed

New pots now fitted. (I did the two, took photo inbetween)

I finally sleeved all of the cables for the fan controller and then rebuilt it.

The 8 pin pcie extension arrived today so I'm just starting to strip the black sleeving off and replace it with my colour scheme.

I managed to re-sleeve 6 of the eight pins of the extension before my pin extraction tool decided to snap. :(

So close now. Just need a window panel and a suitable fan. (probably another gentle typhoon)

For what? Please don't tell me you're getting a window panel with a fan hole in it  .
They are really really unneeded, ESPECIALLY in a water cooled rig like yours. The build looks great btw. Like everyone else, I was a bit "meh" on the color scheme, but it looks awesome.
