Well if waiting isn't a big deal to you, then i'd say wait for next gen GPUs only because they are so close to launching. I'd be very interested in DX12 performance if I were you. Nvidia are rumored to not have done much in the way of adding asynchronous compute on a hardware level. So performance in DX12 may not be as efficient as AMD's DX12 performance, as we know they are getting an upgrade in that department.

What I have found is AMD cards get better with age i.e. better drivers I still swear by my R9 290X Vapor X and yes I had a GTX 970 Strix but sent it back

If you think about it.. a 390x came out in 2013 technically.. yet keeps up or outpaces a 980.. Yep goes to show Nvidia aren't as amazing as people say they are. You know with them hurting old cards with bad drivers and whatnot(supposedly).

Well if you're going a freesync monitor then AMD would be a better option, if you're still thinking of the Predator X34 then Nvidia (for the G-sync)
Up to you however whether you want to let the monitor dictate the best card - or let the cards determine the monitor you choose. They are all pretty similar in performance just a shame there's two distinct ecosystems with GSync and Freesync..
The 1080ti version will also probably be released quite a bit later than the 1080 if Nvidia keep to their past release strategies.

Do you really need Gsync? Personally I've never found it worth the extra (although Free Sync tends to not add an extra cost) which is why I bought a freesync compatible monitor for my nVidia gpu. No need to spend the extra 100s unless you're running a hilariously overpowered/underpowered GPU for your monitor.

Never said it was dude. You had the x34 in your original post which is G sync as well. I'm just saying if that's the monitor you want then Nvidia makes more sense. If you end up with a freesync then it matters less but AMD should work better with the tech.
