Just did a build for a mate, need PSU advice.

Hello gang. I just did this build for a mate, who isnt a gamer, but I'm hoping to entice him away from the PS4 a bit.

His Eco friendly build consists of:
Intel 4160 1150 Haswell cpu
Asus H97-Pro Gamer mobo
Samsung 840 EVO, 120GB
Patriot 2x4GB @1600Mhz
Asus 740GT 2GB
Windows 7 64bit

He mostly just uses his pc for watching videos and listening to music, but I'm hoping the semi-decent parts will encourage him to try out some pc gaming, as pc games are often $20=$30 cheaper than their PS4 counterparts.

The one thing I hadnt properly checked out was his PSU, gleaning as many parts from his old system as we could, in order to save him some money. So, since its not a killer top of the line build, I ask, do you kind folks think the Corsair VS450 PSU will be enough? He wants to get out as cheap as possible, whereas I want him to get the best his money can buy, budget in mind.

I've looked at the local prices, and the closest Ive seen in his price bracket and for his needs comes down to a Corsair VS450, or an EVGA 430W PSU. I know Corsair is a trusted brand with a very good reputation and warrantee, but dont know if EVGA is worth a crap.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

EVGA psus tend to be rebadged superflower PSUs, which are right up there with Seasonic. So they're often very good.

And yes for the system you have spec'd, a 450W PSU would be ample.

Thanks for the advice guys. It is very much appreciated. Looking at the PSU's out today it makes me wonder why manufcturers even bother with floppy connectors!! LOL I havent known anyone sho's used a floppy in about 10 years, Yet the VS450 has two of them LOLZZZ

Perhaps those wires could be put to better uses

Thanks again, at least Im no longer scared to consider EVGA, considering their 430W is $6 cheaper where I shop. $6 is $6, so I reckon I might save my mate $6 on his unit. (please Corsair dont send ninjas to kill me)

Some audio cards or controllers use the floppy connector for power.

I did not know this. I learned something today I thought they were just old, redundant crap that nobody used anymore, with the rare exception of some old lady who still used Zip drives too

Nice, someone else who's using the H97-Pro Gamer it's a fantastic budget build dude, with great upgrade potential which he'll most definitely want to do once the PC addiction kicks in.

So does your friend have a current PS? The power draw for that system will be quite low, you might not even need to upgrade at all.
