Is it worth it......

The best thing to do points wise would be an i7 on a lower level x58 board. With a an o'c to around 4G would be around 30 K+ without any GPU folding, that is about the same or a little less points as the AMD selection with two 460's. Then if you later added some 460's you'd be around 50K on a single machine.

Just another tgought......

Welcome to the team!!!

I would do that but I just don't have enough money right now and with sandybridge around the corner would it be worth it?

If I get the AMD rig then in March-ish I could get the second 460 and already have quite a few points, wheras I would have to wait a while before I could afford the Intel equivalent.

I can see myself getting quite obsessed with folding TBH.

EDIT: Intel rig: https://www.aria.co.uk/WishList/Lmx67PiicuAWai9YFjmrsQ,,

Don't you guys have anything like Newegg over there? I always buy "open box" mobos at a huge discount and never have trouble with them. ATM have a P6X58 Premium on the way for $200 and a new set of 3x2g Geil 1600 for $69. I usually piece things together at the lowest prices possible....

Not trying to mess with you M8, just would like to see you get the most you can F@H wise for the $ and ATM that is the i7 8 thread chips on -bigadv WU's. It would take two GTX570's to = an o'ced i7

We don't have a newegg no. Its been mentioned before that we could do with one XD

Its a big shame really as PC parts are really expensive over here and VAT is set to go up to 20% soon which is nuts.

TBH I can see myself leaving the country in the not too distant future.

Just checking what ariaPC have left as OpenBox.

TBH I'll get the best folding rig I can afford but as I'm a student my money is pretty limited.

I've had a look about and the Intel aria wishlist I posted a few posts up is the cheapest I can get it to in the UK.

I think I may have to go with the AMD option, just due to cost. As 1136 is high end I'm not sure sandybridge will affect the pricing too much.

EDIT: Or I may actually leave it until the summer as I would have a lot more time then to set up a decent F@H rig.

Here's what I'm thinking ATM.

I've sort of rushed into this and not given it enough thought. I'm a student and on a limited budget. Maybe I should wait til the summer, when my exams are all over and I have the time to really concentrate on putting something good together.

I will continue folding on the machines I have until then but I will certainly continue planning this.

Just done a lot of research and with the pricing as it is in the UK at the moment the GTS450 seems to be the best PPD per Pound (my twist on bang for buck XD).

I have considered getting some 9800GTX's as I assumed they would by pretty cheap by now but they are actually almost the same price as a GTS450 XD.

I'll definitely do a lot more research into this before I buy though. I think I was being a bit hasty....... or maybe I'm just tired and grumpy ATM.

EDIT Done some calculations and with current pricing the GTS450 gives the best PPD / £ which is really what I'm after on a budget.
