Is it just me or does Windows 7 pwn?!??!?

Will everyone please WAKE UP !!!

No version of windows ever has been 'perfect' and to be completely honest, it's never going to happen. Remember when XP came out and everybody thought 'oh great, finally a decent version' followed by; 'whats this, 2 YEARS of updates ?'

Sure, this version is faster in parts but still nowhere near where it should be. It's still full of annoying UAC pop up windows and graphic intense displays. I know you can turn these features off but how about: 'if I want it, I'll turn it on'. The day Microsoft stop trying to run our lives by deciding what is right for us or how we should use our computers is the day they release a user friendly version of Windows (User friendly and Windows in the same sentence, can't be right)

And another thing, why wont it let me run Firefox, I can install it and change compatability but it won't let me run it ???

Oh yeah, and its not the 1000 USD Macromedia Flash authoring program, it's the free Adobe Flash plug in for the browser.

Calm down mate ;) Lets look at your issues.

1) Firefox: Which version of firefox are you using? I'm using firefox 3.0.5. you could get the latest version here : http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/?from=getfirefox

2) Flash, it works on firefox and IE for me so I'm unaware how this is a problem?

3) UAC. UAC is there for a reason due to the fact that Einstein has recorded that the Human Stupidity is Infinite. However, I will admit, UAC is so much less annoying and easier to disable than it was in Vista.

Nobody is saying 7 is perfect, but all I am saying is that I'm liking what I'm seeing ;)

Worked at first, but now whenever i click on it, I get the wee blue circle thingy then nothing. It doesn't even appear on the process list in task manager. tried re-installing it but nothing.

Try right clicking and running it as administrator, see if it works?

P.S. CRAP, DOUBLE POST!

Ok, ok, I'll apologise for being rather loud in my earlier post...sorry !

I originally got W7 from the MSDN site thinking it would be generally straight forward, as Vista64 was. However it seems like I'm the only person having any sort of trouble with this software (on 3rd install now)

On the firefox issue, I found an Alpha release of Minefield that does the trick, although flash games/ apps need to be run in a 32bit browser as Adobe have not realesed a 64bit driver yet.

I have no idea why I couldn't save files from Firefox, I tried changing the user rights but nothing changed. Re-installed a few times but same old thing.

I am constantly getting these kiddy-on error messages, with the option to ignore once/all/never, but nothing ever comes of it. I appreciate the fact that it is still in Beta stage and I'm guessing that these things will be resolved in the future.

Major problem at the moment is finding virtual mounting software that will not crash the system as PowerISO has.

P.S. Could someone give Fragtek a kiss and a cuddle for me !

just realising i havent reinstalled windows for over 18 months, this really has been the best pc ever.

now considering going to vista but might give W7 a go first if you all think its the dogs! will my pc be ok running it? im so out of the loop with hardware its untrue.

intel e6600 c2d, 2gb ram, ati x1600pro

and also, how long can you install this for before it requires a reinstall? there is usually some sort if time limit isnt there?

edit: just seen its august

Some users are saying it works well on lowey laptops so on your system it might not be that bad. Why not try a dual boot with it :)

It might expire in August but who knows they may release another or even an RC in that time.

All i did was make a seperate partition in vista

Install windows 7 IN vista to the new partition

It did the rest

Automatically installs a boot manager - choose windows 7 or vista to boot

Iv only found some issues (dameon tools, punkbuster)

Still im unsure whether to try it again when my new raptors come, its nice but not sure if im too bothered to dual boot (i wont be using it primarily)

Talking of raptors... They're on there way matey.

I'm going to stick with vista, rather than having to wait when the beta ends for retail.

Cool beans!

guessing the money has gone through then

Yes, although windows 7 is good i may just use vista as i know its "stable" and all my apps "should" work

gah, cant do that with xp :(

is W7 going to be released as a new OS, or is it just a vista service pack lol, it seems it to me!

If it was a service pack they wouldn't be charging for it :D

Think about it tho

It looks pretty much the same as vista

They havent changed the kernal

A few optimisations

Slightly diff appearance

It would restore the faith in vista

There are already rumours out there
