Ip banning

right, i know when someone gets banned from a forum, you can not only ban the acount, you can ban the ip address (know from personal experience)

i've been to 3 friends houses in bridlington, and tried to access OC3D, none of them have ever been on the forum before, but when they try, their ip is banned

what have they done exactly?! its crazy..

any ideas?

There is no point banning an IP unless that person has a fixed IP. Banning an IP which isn't fixed just means that you end up banning a random user from the same ISP.

So, my guess is someone without a fixed IP was using IP x when they got banned, your friends are on the same ISP and also do not have fixed IP's, they get assigned IP x and are therefore banned.

Turning the modem off and back on may cause a different IP to be assigned.

the thing is, i've disconected and reconected and got a new ip, several times, at all 3 locations,....with the same effect

one's with tiscali, one with wanadoo, and the third with pipex, same as me..

Odd... is it possible the browser isn't refreshing so you're seeing a cached banned page?

Maybe a large range of IP's has been banned and you keep getting an IP within that range.

Maybe the banning isn't because of the IP at all but some other reason and it's just not telling you what that reason is.

I guess the site admins are the only ppl who can tell us for sure.

I did ban an IP range some time ago because we was getting a lot of trouble from people on it. I've now unbanned it, so maybe try again now.

we were so scared of you registering again after we banned you ionicle that we banned every IP range in your city.

it was a necessary sacrifice :p
