'I was shot five times by the Taliban ... then ended up in hostel where thieves stole my medals'

And they would disapprove of what you say, but they will go on defending to the death your right to say it. ...

At the very least they deserve all our respect for that if nothing else.

yeah because right now they are thousands of miles away defending our freedom of speech, yeah i bet Osama and Saddam were really trying to take that way from us.

I for one an just glad to live in a country where one is permitted to have debates such as this on an open internet forum; even the most cursory knowledge of modern history would underscore that this is in no small part due to the actions of many courageous people, who paid the highest price, over the last 70 or so years. There are still too many others in the world today who are not so fortunate and this would be repressed. Even the most cursory knowledge of modern history would underscore that this is in no small part due to the actions of many courageous people, who paid the highest price, over the last 70 or so years.

Yes you are entirely at liberty to pour scorn on their efforts but I think they would have been saddened if they'd have lived to witness this kind of debate. Many years ago I would have been surprised to hear some of the disparaging comments on here, especially from those who live in continental Europe. Do we not learn from history? However within in the context of this hard won, free society where soldiers' graves are spat on, war memorials are defaced with graffiti, metal plaques of memorials to war dead are stolen for scrap and poppies are burned this debate is trivia.

What price freedom?

I've said my piece, now back to the joys of overclocking.

lol we all know that we arent in iraq and afghanistan for their human rights fact is our government couldnt care less.

we are there to steal their oil and pay big defence contractors like B.A.E. and Lockheed Martin

if a state spends money on building up their armies they have to justify that, so they go kill Arabs... Bah Iran next hope they get their arses handed to em

oh and btw dont say that it isnt the soldiers fault, as there will never be a war unless soldiers are willing to fight and you can have all the missiles in the world but they arent dangerous until the ranks in the military are willing to use them... so the people in our armies dont have the intellect to know whats right and whats wrong they are willing to kill and be killed without question and for that they have nobody to blame beside themselves

Having an armed force is a necessary evil simply because everyone else has one. Its no different from needing a police force to deal with criminals.

Welcome to life. Get used to it.

so the people in our armies dont have the intellect to know whats right and whats wrong they are willing to kill and be killed without question and for that they have nobody to blame beside themselves

You clearly know very little about how the armed forces work. Believe it or not we are human and have a conscience.

That's the last I'll say because this all feels like trolling and if it's not then clearly neither side is going to be influenced by the other's arguments.

again they should just stay out of the middle east 90% of the stories you hear about the taliban are bullshit anyway

This. I wish they could mind their own business, they do more harm than good. I second basically everything ruthless has stated in this debate.

Dont think this should be a debate.....

Regardless of why this war or that war is happening these people risked their lives for their country and shouldnt be abandoned by it this thread has gone so off topic its unbelievable its about homeless and forgotten soldiers not the ethics or morality of war...

If you want a debate start a new thread...just my 2 cent

It's been going on for centuries. Well expressed in Kipling's 1892 poem

Tommy

As an ex infantryman of five years and having served Two tours of Iraq (op telic 7 & 10) this kinda thing really hits home.

I suffered from symptoms of ptsd and got kicked out of my parents house a few months after i left the army for being a total cunt to everyone i knew and drinking heavily.Social workers at the homeless unit i stayed in were on the ball and got me treatment with a cpn.I was then put on anti depressants and beta blocker before being introduced to combat stress who helped me back on my feet.I'm now living in my very own council flat working part time at Game and studying Hnd computing at college and hoping to go to uni next year.I consider myself very lucky unlike these poor souls we read about.

When i hear about this stuff it really pisses me off.I always hear/read about Junkies/criminals/scumbags getting all kinds of benefits and handouts from the government which is sickening whilst these chaps are out in the cold being looked down upon by passers by.Government needs to get its priorities right. There is something broken in our society, alot of lazy ass good for nothing thugs/junkies get more money through benefits then some people who work 40 hours + every week. How is that fair? Some arseholes who live in council houses are getting arrested weekly for whatever reasons and are still allowed to stay in there council houses?

Perhaps i should of posted a rant in the rant section
