Hey Guys

As you guys know I have 2 x GTX580, but was recently looking at a few posts on another forum and one guy said that the Corsair HX1000 struggles to cope with GTX580 in SLI..... Just wondering if this is true, or if anyone else has heard this.

Cheers Hay

I've been hearing that the HX1000 is not that good either, people have had problems with it in the past that I know, apparently it's an older model PSU than the 750 and 850 HX models.

I would get a AX1200 if I were you, just to be on the safe side, gold plus Psu's are the way forward for expensive components such as 580's in SLI

Hope that helps

Hayley I manage to get my 580s with the ax850 overclocked and everything

don't know about the hx1000 I've. Herd really good reviews bout it but I've also herd some stuff about it not being able to cope with large amounts if graphics but tbh I think it should be ok but the ax series are newer and better

I saw in the Custom PC magazine that the HX 1000 Under volts the rails by about 0.1 - 0.3 volts. This isn't great if your running cards like that.

Ok so I have the HX1000 do you think that would cause my 580 drivers to crash after a few days??? (maybe not getting enough power etc) I can leave my pc on for about 3-4 days 24/7 before the drivers crash on me, do you think this PSU might be the cause?

It's always a possibility, the only way you could prove it is if you got a new PSU (better) and see if it happens again.

or try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling.... worth a try

Tried reinstalling the drivers many times, so you guys recommending the AX 1200 (Corsair) then??

You could get the AX850W as Source95 is doing, but it would limit expandability and i think its pushing it, so yes i would say AX1200w for future-proofing

You should get the 1200 for 2 580s and a 990, It'll allow for degradation as well if you keep your parts that long.

Or you can go for a NZXT HALE 90/Super Flower Golden Green 1000w PSU, they should be able to handle it, but source95's suggestion of a AX1200 with 3way SLI is better

But yes the HX1000 is worse than the lower wattage HX750 and HX850, because they are made by a different company. The HX750 and HX850 as well as the XFX 750W and 850W Black Editions are just rebranded Seasonic M12D PSUs. The HX1000 is made by CWT and it definitly dones't perform as well as the other two.

Note how the HX850 has a higher efficiency and that its fans spin up at a lower wattage despite being a less powerful PSU.
