How to flash the BIOS

Almost ready to start my build, just waiting for the ol'PSU to be delivered and i'll be away.

So, I decided to start downloading the drivers etc. now, ready to shove on the computer tomorrow and save me a lot of hassle.

As I was going through MSI's site, I realised that my knowledge on how to actually flash the BIOS is...well, non existent!

If it helps, I have a MSI Z77A GD65

So, these are the things that are troubling me at the moment:

The USB Drive: do I need to format it at all?

does it have to be a blank USB drive?

The BIOS file: it comes in a .zip package - do I need to uncompress it?

Apologies for the noobish question, it just suddenly hit me that I really didn't know what to do.

unzip it and just put the BIOS "rom" update on the root of the USB stick

Yeah that ^^^

You need to format the USB in FAT32, in the BIOS go to the Utilities section, click on M-Flash and then "Select UEFI file to flash" then choose the one on your USB.

So, i'm guessing I put the .A50 file onto the USB?

yup but might aswell put all of them, make sure you dont interupt the process of flashing or it will be difficult to get the previous bios back(not sure if your board has dual bios)
