Help on upgrades!!! (please) :)

Hey all, first post for a while from me, but some of you may remember me from the OC3D Counter-Strike: Source UK team from a couple of years back. :)

Anyway, i'm looking to upgrade my PC's case, power supply and graphics card. My budget is around £450 for everything inclusive of carriage. I don't even mind if i buy some parts from the buying section within these forums - just looking to get the best components possible for the price.

At the moment i have:

Mobo: Asus Maximus Formula X38 chipset

CPU: E8400

RAM: G. Skill 4GB PC2-8000

PSU: 500w Tagan - not too bad, need the overhead for expansion in the future

GFX: 512mb X1950XTX

Other parts don't really need mentioning, just looking for the best combinations from what i have there :D

Case wise, i'm not into anything too flash (I like the Lian Li range - simplistic) although I must say i like the look of the mods etc from TTL shown on these forums :worship:

If anyone can make any suggestions or have any bits for sale, that would be greatly appreciated :)

p.s not entirely sure this is the right place for this thread, but i cannot post in the buying/wanted section yet as i haven't had the verification confirmed yet.

Many thanks.

not too bothered, just one that can take the uber long cards of nowadays, ideally not Cosmos S big, but it wouldn't be the end of the world, and certainly would allow for expansion :P one with a removable mobo tray would also be dandy :D

Again - with gfx, im pretty flexible - always had ati in desktops, but the nvidia 9600m in my xps is dandy :)

Depending on what else I can come up with, how does a lian li v2010 look (£190+del)

I thought a 1GB 4870 (Sapphire toxic edition @ £175) might do you for graphics

750W silverstone modular PSU @£100

That comes out at £480 inc delivery from scan (9.99 delivery for that is worth it)

Yeah i like the look of that, the simple style and brushed aluminium is cool. Only problem is pricing on that one - 190+ del is a lot, when im trying to get a good gfx chip and psu :P

Oh and regarding psu's - modular would be nice as well :)

cheers for the help thus far though Diablo :)

Still alive then are ya :p.

Take a look at the PC-8 for medium case.

GPU, 4870 aint a bad choice.

PSU: PCP&C for all out awsoemness, or one of the Realpower Pro series form CM if you want modular.

How about a PcA77 (B) which is £158 + del (total is now £453 ish I think), that's quite nice by the looks of it and not as pricey. Given the price of powersupplies, I reckon the 4870 is probably the best card at that price point.

Yeah Ham, i am still alive :P you got a different msn these days? Don't see you on bud.

I do like the combinations that you have chosen Diablo, although the site of that 190 quid case has now made me think ;)

Do you reckon that would handle most things...i.e empire: total war, far cry 2 etc at higher settings on a 1440x900 (perhaps changing to 1650 x1080 res soon)?

For breakfast. I can only +1 the above recommendations.

Wow Snatz, long time. Personally I went for the 4870 1gb because its great performance for the price, can be had for £155 inc del:

As Ham said a Coolermaster Real Power Modular 700w is a decent choice for £92 delivered:

It should be able to handle 2 4870 1gb's if you decide to crossfire at a later date.

Case wise, its really a personal choice, just get one with good air flow and can fit the 4870 in. The Antec 1200 seems to be popular (£148 inc delivery):

Plus, oc your cpu! You have a good mobo and cpu there.
