Help me overclock!

Is the Cool & Quiet function enabled in BIOS? Have you installed the ACPI driver?

Cool & Quiet is disabled and i dont have ACPI driver but i have SpeedFan, CoreTemp,CPUZ,Prime95 and SP2004 these are the ones i was told to download.

Ok can somebody please explain this to me.

I was looking through loads of different forums about overclocking and what i found is very interesting to me as i dont know why its that way..

Basically heres a screenshot: http://forums.overclockers.co.nz/attachment.php?attachmentid=14657&d=1163370973

this guy has the same motherboard and a worse CPU than mine but can overclock it more than i can overclock mine? How does that work? Please tell me if im doing something wrong here.

Heres a screenshot of my CPUZ and the temperatures:http://img300.imageshack.us/my.php?image=overclockyj4.jpg

Should i be Overclocking from my BIOS option or do it like that guy through AI Booster??

Please answer my questions boys and girls i dont know much but im very keen to learn! :)

Well, it could be the luck of the chip.

Some chips wil over clock miles when others of the same model may not.

Plus maybe his cooling is good enough to take that overclock.

I didnt stop SP2004 it stopped by itself read what it says "FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4.... it stopped by itself i didnt touch it so i cant leave it on for 8hours if it stops after like 15 minutes :/

Sounds like you need a few more volts to get it stable

As has been noted above any one chip is not the same...it's the luuck of the draw

get.php

IMO

215 is a normal end to pc3200 ocing

Kempez even if i put the volts on 1.50 (the highest) still doesnt work..

Ham its on 400MHz atm mate, should i lower it or just leave it like that?

Set it too 333.

That will mean when your fsb is 200, the ram will run at 1/2 of 333 (as its ddr), 166.

when you raise the fsb as u have by 15, it will raise to 166+15=181. Well under the 200mhz the ram is rated for.

ohh now i understand!! thanks Ham

How low should i go with the RAM then??? 266?? Or lower or should i just leave it on 333??

no keep it as 333, you wont be taking the FSB high enough to need to set the multi as 266. unless you drop the multiplyer, but thats a whole other story :)

ok so if i keep it on 333 and half of 333 is 166 so that means i can put the Bus Speed up to 34?

Or am i wrong?

also remember to keep your Hyper Transport Frequency multiplyer set to a value that will give you under no more than 1000.

FSB of 200 = HT multi of 5

FSB of 201 - 250 = HT multi of 4

and so on, ensuring it doesnt go more than a few MHz over 1000

AND

if you lower any memory timings OR run the memory at much above 200 MHz (you will have trouble doing both by any significant amount), you will have to increase the RAM voltage / vDIMM

Thanks alot guys, you have helped me loads and now im pretty confident about overclocking :D ive learnt alot in a few days about overclocking thanks to nice guys like you lot and these forums are great!

atm i have 333 and FSB 220 doing the SP2004 test and it all seems fine been doing it for 40minutes and the Core temp is 50 is that ok??

Also i have the Hyper Transport Frequency on 4 so thats ok as 220 x 4 = 880 so its all good so far.

Whats a normal Core temp when im doing a stress test like SP2004 or Prime95.

Do you guys think ill be ok if i push my FSB to 230?

Thanks once again for all the help

only one way to find out mate, do it in ~5 mhz increments though, dont just jump to 230.

50*C is fine for load temp, that will increase mostly when you increase your CPU voltages (same applies for RAM) so keep an eye on it when you start bumping up volts for stability

ok everything was going well but now im confused :S

Screenshot: FSB 220 2640.3MHz

http://img259.imageshack.us/my.php?image=220yt8.jpg

Screenshot: FSB 225 2250.1MHz

http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wtfcd1.jpg

This is what i dont understand I increased the FSB but the MHz has gone down :S I also see that the Multiplier has gone down from x12.0 to x10.0, so if i increase the FSB to 225 from 220 im actually not gaining anything im actually losing MHz on my CPU :/

Can someone please clear this out for me because im confusedddd :(
