GTX 470

So... I have my GTX470 clocked at 850/1700/2100 @ 1.212v

And when it passes 70°C it just shuts down... I know that is a protection against overheating, but a 470 can take 90°C

So why does it crash sooner when clocked?

And, how can I fix, or make it not crash at those temps?

Might not be a temperature issue but rather a stability issue, try running the heaven benchmark on max 2 or 3 times continuously to check for stability.

What PSU is powering it up ?

could be the voltage is to much for the PSU, resulting in a turn off ..

750HX is powering it... and the max wattage when running OCCT Powersupply was near 670W =)

That's a great PSU so that's ruled out,

could it be software related aka the software thermal is at 70c so it shuts it down ?

Trying to help matey so trying all possibilities

I dont think its software cuz when its stock clocked, it can reach 90°C with no crashing

Maybe its an unstable oc... Pushing it too far >=D

Smoke everywhere! I just fried my 470

Well, I have a 8800GT for backup so I have it in my rig at present.

So im asking you guys... Should I wait for a 570 to drop prices or just go with a 560SOC?

If you can't quite get the 580 by that point, get the 570
