right,

in my quest for 3.8....

what you reckon guys ?

take the heatspreader off this fx57 ?

anyone seen a confirmed improvement in overclock by doing this with phase change ?????

I'd imagine it would probably help you get to 3.8Ghz but I'm not sure I'd want to take the spreader off. Is the chip retail or OEM?

Yeah thinking of getting my top off to. Got an FX55 so a bit scary. Hope the G5 would clear the higher edge of the socket with the IHS removed :)

I'd be more concerned about trashing the cpu once the HS was off. Why dont you just upgrade your cooling? You're only using a 404a GT - you've two upgrades available. ;)

:p

I am quite happy with the noise levels on this one thank you very much

just wish I could find a way to get more vcore as I am sure that would do it as well...

You really think its worth it? UNless the IHS is making very poor contact with the core, you wont get much improvement...but you wont know the suggested contact quality until you try it....

After you take the IHS off you can make a shim to protect the core....

Or remove the IHS, put AS5 between core and IHS & knock off a few degrees that way...

people ahve found that temp drops are about teh only thing that happens and in some cases a better clock the ihs uses a thermal paste between teh core and heat spreader which is often conducting heat badly, people find replacing this with as5 helps a lot but i cant see how it will help the overclock otehr than getting lower temps
