Gigabyte (Z68-UD7) power problems

I just recently put my computer back together after some extensive clean up and for some odd reason the Motherboard does not want to power up.

The main Power (blue) LED switch powers on for a little while (a few seconds at best) but then it dies down and nothing happens...none of the peripheral components turn on. A red LED also shines near the bottom of the board (near the IO ports) but fades away in sync with the main Power switch (as mentioned above).

I have double checked all my components for any wiring faults or shorts but everything was as it had been before. The board is safely mounted into the case with ample room away from any possible interference. Also did a quick hot plug on my AX850 (using a paper clip) and it seems to be running fine...

HOWEVER I did hear a Loud POP sound the other day when I was doing initial checks on my PSU (I was testing my fans)... that could be a possible suspect

I understand Tom has had some experience with this board so any help would be much appreciated.

Things I have already tried:

Used the extra EPS & PCIE cables provided with the PSU to rule out possible cable malfunction.

Reset CMOS battery

Held down CMOS button when powered down

Used high pressure compressed air!!!!

Could be bended cpu-pins.

unplug power cord from psu flip switch on psu push and hold power button for minimum 10 seconds replug in power cord flip psu switch back to on position ....report back

loud pop concerns me but lets try this first if it dont go RMA psu

remove the motherboard and psu from the case onto a flat surface (not carpet) and only connect the 20+4 pin and the 4/8 motherboard pin (no hdd, no fans except cpu fan, no gpu)

if it powers on then at least you know it still works and the problem is not with the mobo - possibly the standoffs or case bent touching somewhere

but you said you heard a loud pop so it would be wise to also test with another psu / test your current psu

I took the motherboard out of my system and placed it over a cardboard box. Did a quick check and the CPU seems fine, all pins are looking good.

The motherboard did power on for a little while, but as mentioned above it doesn't post at all and I didn't here any beep noises either. I have purchased a new PSU and its arriving on Monday so I will report back then. I really hope its not my motherboard!!

If it does turn out to be my PSU then how exactly could I ask for an RMA? I braided the cables and I had thrown away the original box a few months back.Although the PSU its self still has its warrant sticker over it.

well since ya braided the cables ur RMA hopes are most likely out. but it never hurts to contact them and ask.

It turns out my Power Supply was faulty. The loud pop noise made me suspicious so I ended up having to buy a new one.The actual fault lay in my cable wiring. When I braided my main 24pin I had put one cable in the wrong pin! I suppose that caused a fault somewhere in the PSU....
