Future Project

On the advise of james(riley94) I have reposted the components list of a rig I hope to build in a few weeks time....

Case: CM Storm Stryker
Mobo: Asus P9X79 Pro
CPU: Intel 3930K
PSU: Corsair AX850 with Corsair's replacement sleeved cables
GPU: EVGA GTX680 (not decided if going SLi yet)
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 1833Mhz 16GB (might go 32G)
Fans: Bitfenix Spectre Pro - All White

Watercooling:

CPU Block: Watercool HK Rev.3 special edition Black and Chrome
GPU Block: Watercool HK GPU-X³ "Hole Edition" Ni Bl and Backplate
Rad (roof): EK CoolStream XTC 280
Rad (floor): EK CoolStream XT 240
Fittings: Bitpower 1/2" Barbs - Shiny Silver
Tubing: Tygon R3603 7/16" - Clear
Pump: Laing D5 Vario with Bitspower Mod Kit

It's just an idea at the moment, theme is white, blue and shiny silver to match colour scheme on mobo, not sure what colour coolant to go with though, can't decide whether to go "OC3D" blue or white. ;)

So wadda you think so far peeps? Is it a

or a

If you are spending that much money get the 2133 memory.

Wouldnt use the BF fans they are a bit gash compaired to Corsairs. Get SP's for the radiator and AF's for the case. Get the quiet editions too.

Youll need to rethink the cooling in a big way if you want to SLI

I find it a little hard to believe that James helped you pick the components...
I mean, it is a solid build, but I would ask if it's all needed?
What's the system going to be used for?

Seems that every new build is in a Trooper/Stryker since Tom said that he uses one for Orca
+1 for what Tom and Josh said

I did think about the higher clock memory, but so far only seen them in dual channel kit form, would really like to find a quad kit if such a thing exists...

Lol you really are liking those Corsairs eh dude? Only reason I went for the Spectres was mainly because they are white and specs seemed reasonable compared to other all white fans I'd seen.

Not a 'hardcore' gamer myself so SLi isn't something I really need, merely tinkering with the idea in me noggin' ^_^

I understand the need for beefier rads if went that way. Also didn't want to start doing a build similar to Orca..purely out of respect for you...and your mum...god rest her soul

If you decide that you don't need SLI, get a AX650 and save some money, it wasn't a criticism with the case, there were just a lot of new builds recently with this case

Again what's the rig for?

lmao...and why would that be Josh? nawww he didn't help in the choosing...only where to post it!

Can never have too much of a good thing matey, especially as I plan to keep it for a few years, so would be pointless spending money on stuff that's been kicking around for yonks...need to get with the now ;)

Oh and it's going to be used for Nerd P*rn of course

lol - I think I posted on his introduction to post his specs on here so we could help - Definitely didn't advise those parts - Told him to post so we could amend all the mistakes there :P

You can't buy future proof computer hardware, when you get a z77 rig now you can buy another more mainstream rig in 2-3 years for the same money as one 2011 rig

I know the 850 is probably a little overkill, but then you could also say why have a supercar that can go over 200mph (320Km/h) when the fastest you'll ever go (on UK roads anyway) is 70mph (110Km/h)....it's because you know it can ;)

Understood what you meant about the case, as the saying goes though "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" ^_^

My answer on rig use is the same as I gave to Josh :D

When you have a R8 or a 911 you can drive them on a track (if you don't live in Switzerland which is the worst country in the world to have a fast car) or on the German autobahn, buying the AX850 is like buying a supercar and put it in your living room without ever touching it - just stupid tbh

No we are being serious, what is it going to be used for?

Pardon? Who are the WE that is being serious? I think you stand almost alone on that one my young friend

The only reason I posted the list here is because james 'advised' me to ^_^

There are those who have been able to offer input without the need to know its purpose. The purpose of the rig is unimportant....Its viability is ;)

No - He doesn't stand alone at all...

We need to know what the rig is for to build a list up for it...
ie:
i3 for general use
i5 (3570k)for gaming
i7 (3770k) for gaming and a little rendering
i7 (3930k) for rendering

There's no point in putting a 3930k in a gaming rig when you can save £300 and get the 3570k which will perform identically in gaming to the 3930k
