Flight Simulator X issue...

I know this is a really old game but with the game maxed out @ 1080 I'm averaging around 13 frames per second.

Does anyone know why this is? I know this game is a monster to run but it's 7 years old!

To put it in perspective, I get better frame rates in Crysis 3 at max settings.

My system specs are in my sig.

Thanks.

cpu intensive game, and becaus its such a big world with lots of textures and probally bad optimized you will have bad frames. though when you are flying you should not bother about missing some tree's and a bit lower texture at the ground.

with some settings changed my phenom 955 with HD 6850 is running fine at medium/high

+1 for game choice btw :)

Simulation is more the issue rather than graphics in FS, which is normally dealt with cpu side, but there is no rule to say that simulation and rendering should be in same thread (also input) but for overall design makes sense. HLSL did exist in DX9 so if they did implement FS using the GPU for more than just rasterization then detailed geometry and textures will be dealt with solely on the GPU. However I have a feeling that FS is as you say CPU intensive.

Try this to get a custom cfg file based on your hardware and then adjust from there, i think by default fsx is not multithreaded until sp1 or sp2 so make sure you install that 1st -

it's just horribly optimized, nothing you can do about it. maybe there are some fanmade patches.

I'll take a look around the web, thanks for the reply mate :)

Haha thanks! I just wanted to try something a little different and take a break from guns and stuff from time to time. Thanks for the reply!

I had a feeling that it'd be very CPU intensive. Then again, this game is 7 years old and I'm running a 3570K. In theory, my CPU should be able to handle this game with room to spare. Thanks for the reply btw :)
