First look at Core i5

Unless there is a significant improvement over core 2 (and the integrated graphics don't count), I don't see the point in getting these.

It seems wierd to be releasing these after i7, because they have already be superseded in a way and most people looking to upgrade would decide that they are not worth it over what they have, either leave it or go for i7.

I wouldn't say that they've already been superceded as this platform is targeted at a different market segment. I may have misunderstood what you meant but it's almost like saying there isn't much point in AMD releasing the HD 4670 when the HD 4850/4870 are already out.

DDR3 prices are dropping rather nicely and many of the features of Bloomfield LGA1366 removed, motherboard costs should be far more reasonable too, so Core i5 shouldn't be terribly expensive either.

Upgrading to Core i5? This may or may not be worth it but I'm not willing to write the platform off from a couple of meanlingless SuperPi 1M times. The CPU could really shine in multicore apps, in the same way that i7 does. Then there's how well they overclock and how performance scales with higher frequencies. Finally, there's price. This will make or break it as it'll have to be significantly cheaper than going i7 and will have to be priced aggressively against AMD's Socket AM3 offerings.

Doesn't seem to be much of a performance improvement,

This is the way of the world.

Performance is going up by microns of a %, but they intend to have u use less energy.

Buy 775 whilst u can !! lol

There's always AM3 dev.

Think this'll drop 775 CPU prices down a bit?

I'd expect a few discounted sales to clear stocks at retailers particularly with lower end LGA775 CPU's but CPU's like the Q9550 and higher are likel will be looking to try and upgrade from E5000, E7000 and E8000 series CPU's without a total platform change.

It'll be a while before these CPU's disappear though as they're all in production and will take a while to filter through the channels and reach retailers.
