F14R – Fold one for Redline.

OK guys this is something I’ve been thinking about for a while…

When I first started folding, I found it quite frustrating that for my first 10 hard earned Work Units (WU) I only received a very small amount of points because they didn’t qualify for a Quick Return Bonus (QRB ). After you’ve crunched your first 10 WU – then you start to earn potentially big points because you’ve qualified for QRB.

So I started to think about how many folders may start and then give up because their initial scores are so small. Then they probably look at the leader board and think they’ll never achieve big scores and they give up. Also the occasional folders, who just want to pump out the odd WU here and there, have no way of climbing the leader board quickly.

If we had a push like Tom did a while ago, which attracted lots of new folders, each of those folders would have to go through the initial “frustration” of not scoring "big" for their first 10 WU’s. That is potentially alot of missed points for the team.

So I decided to create a new user for the team, F14R, which I have populated with 10 WU’s. This user can be, and I hope will be, used by anyone. You will earn QRB straight away and hopefully it will be fun to try and get this user on to the first page of the Redline leader board.

You will need to enter the following information into your folding client(s):-

User ID – F14R (this is case sensitive)

Passkey – ba9caaa619e58f26f6549b715f053d9c

Team – 98860

You can get the latest folding client here.

If you want to show F14R stats, put this line in your sig - "http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/sigs/sigimage.php?u=647797"

It will look like this:-

I'll look into getting all my rigs (currently a i3-550 with a -now fixed- gts450 and a 8320 with a 7870) fired up to help. I might also be able to get one of the old(~2006) dual xeon servers I have at my work for occasional folding duties.

-edit- contributing now on my main rig :). Will look into making my other rig a decent 24/7 silent folding machine.

I'll give it a go with my 2700K and my GTX 780.
Fantastic, you should be able to kick out some awesome numbers with that rig. When you configure your 780 you need to set an advanced flag option. That way you will get core 17 WU which are worth loads of points.:)

A question I have though: What do you mean by this:

Do you mean among the top 100 in the team or something? If that is important I can contribute under that name for two or three days, and that should be enough... But I can't imagine that this is what you meant.

I took that as top 100 or 1st page of the Redline leader board. it should happen relatively fast as there is already 20K+ points for the new folder and the top 100 is at 25K or so.

I started folding on my iMac last night. I am working making my PC silent enough for me I leave on 24/7. It has a 3770k and 2x 670s

Yep Steve, that's what I meant.:) I'm just trying to give the guys who only fold occasionally, or just want to try it out a means of getting QRB straight away. Trying to get F14R into the top 100 of the Redline leader board is hopefully a bit of an incentive.:)

That's a pretty awesome rig you got there. I've no idea what sort of points you'll get with an iMac - but all contributions are much appreciated.:)
 
I had an issue with stability with my rig's overclock so I've not been able to contribute as much as I would like to. It says the PPD is around 70,000 I think ( I probably misread it) and I've yet to get my gts 450 in my other rig to behave under full load.
 
Yep, overclocks can be challenging when folding. I've had a rig and the CPU ran OCCT with no problems at all, but it fell over when folding. Are you folding on your 7870? That alone should give some decent points.

Just hope it brings more people to the fold.:lol:

2x 2697 V2's (12 cores/24threads each) and a couple of GPU's will be needing to be tested.......
Just looked up those puppies, WOW. If it where me, I'd be running them under Linux without the GPU's. If you run them with W7 & the GPU's you'll probably have to give up a core for each GPU.

yeah the gpu is about 50k of the 70k my rig can produce. I'll leave it folding when I go to work tomorrow. It should hopefully produce it by then.
