F14R – Fold one for Redline.

Tuuuurns out I was waay over the amount of PPD my rig could produce:rolleyes:. Basically 36208 is my ppd, of which my 7870 is the major contributor (26749) and the cpu puts out 9457.

Alot of people seem to be moving away from SMP (CPU) folding in favour of GPU folding, and given the numbers you can see why. You don't have to fold on everything. As a general rule of thumb for each GPU you fold with, you need to leave 1 core of the CPU free. So once the CPU has finished folding its current WU, you could try and leave it off altogether & it may actually boost your PPD on the GPU.

Ah right, I currently have 7 cores on my cpu folding and I was wondering why it was saying 7 not 8.

Did you set the advanced flag for your GPU? Having done a bit of research you should be getting nearer 60K PPD with a 7870 if you set the advanced flag and get Core 17 WU's (8900's).:)

It didn't like that at all, it crashed :l. I think I'm going to need an idiot's guide in order to enable core 17s.

-edit- Don't bother, core 17 shows up in my task manager, it seems to not effect the ppd though :l.

Core 17 is quite sensitive to OC and may take a little experimenting to achieve max stable OC. IIRC a good 7870 with proper OC should tickle 50K PPD

I took that as top 100 or 1st page of the Redline leader board. it should happen relatively fast as there is already 20K+ points for the new folder and the top 100 is at 25K or so.

Very nice sheroo!!

My bad on this post:blush: the top one hundred is @ 1,125,000 points, I was looking at project rank:rolleyes:

Also would the new contributer to F14R like to identify themselves as there is now 11 WUs completed:lol:

Ah great, well I can't OC my 'card properly due to it being the poo single fan xfx cooler. I had an OC at one point but it would run hot if it was on 100% for more than 3 hours. My current fan profiling enables it to run nice and cool at stock for as long as needs be. When I get a new 'card I'll put the 7870 with my i3 550 and change a few bits so it should put out some good numbers. Currently the gts 450 in my other system has to run at 100% fan speed to stay coolish so it's not worth the hassle. I'm also currently sorting out my spare i7 950 with a motherboard and bits n pieces so hopefully I should be able to put more PPD in more regularly.

I've just noticed that there is a new folder on the team F11R - I wonder if somebody has mistyped the user name???

When I get my RM750 back from my chum I'll leave mine on when I'm not at work so I should be able to put points into it (I don't trust my cx600m to be left alone). My apologies, I'd be folding more if I wasn't so paranoid :c.
