Excellent SSD recommendations?

I'd get Intel, Samsung, Crucial, Kingston.. pretty much the top 4 in terms of reliability/performance. Crucial are probably the cheapest out of the 4, however are renowned for their amazing durability. They also therefore are slightly slower but tbh you won't notice much of a difference.. maybe a second or two at most off the boot time

Would seer clear of ocz myself, maybe look at a crucial mx100 they're solid drives good cheap too

Funny that you mentioned Kingston, previously I had my eye on the HyperX Savage (SHSS37A/480G). Between Kingston and Intel, which would you pick? As for the Intel SSDs, would you say the 730 series?

Any specific reasons to stay away from OCZ? I'll take a look at the Crucial one as well, cheers! The Kingston one is actually cheaper and faster - only by tenner though.

Before OCZ was bought up, they had a terrible track record with their ssd drives, a lot of failures and returns prettymuch ruined the company to the point of filing for bankruptcy and their reputation forever stained.

Even now as they have a new owner people generally avoid them.

I'd get whichever is cheaper. Intel has a longer warranty period and still performs very well. Kingston has a little shorter period but it's amongst the fastest ssds on the market for Sata 3, so really if it was me I'd get the cheapest one. If it's only a few euro's more to get the Savage then I'd get that as it's faster.

Ouch! Point well taken!

I have the Sam 850 evo so would obv recommend likewise.

I must admit not being a Samsung Evo fan, sorry for not mentioning that earlier. Mainly because of the few troubles that were reported a while back, although they might not be completely true or what not, they kind of ruined it for me to be honest.

Always been in love with Kingston, they got beautiful Hyper X series

They sure do! At this point this is my #1 choice, but I've got time and more suggestions might come in :)

Of course I can check various hardware review sites (and I have done), however I'd rather hear from actual owners (meaning you) that have long time experience wih your drives.

Since I'd already had my eye on it before the OCZ breakdown, that might be my best option, as stated above.

the only SSD i have had catastrophically die on me was an OCZ

Hold up.

The new OCZ SSDs are much better than what they used to be. Thanks to Toshiba buying them (who for the record, make really reliable SSDs) they have a much, much lower fail rate than they used to. Mainly because Toshiba got rid of everything that was sub par before.

OCZ vertex 4 drives has been serving many of my PCs for years and I have yet to have a single failure. Just my experience though.
