Eliminating coil whine

OK, I'm getting a bit peeved as I cannot work out what is causing my gpu to coil whine. I've replaced my HX750i with a brand new RM750X, my gpu has been tested by yoyotech who stated its dead silent on their system so what the bloody he'll is causing it on mine.

Any ideas of what it could be guys??

Yep the gpu is whining but only on my system. I have replaced the psu but it's still whining on my system. Thinking it could be the motherboard. Can't think of anything else

Are you overclocking the graphics card by either clock rate or power limit? My GTX 1080 started coil whining, or buzzing to be exact when I did that. Defaulting it to stock fixed my issue.

But besides that I can't really think of anything that could make it coil whine except a PSU. If possibly try and test the card with a friends system, or whatever options you have. I'm just saying that Yoyotech, or whomever could be bs'ing you.

Tried stock, all OC'ing does is change the pitch of the whine. Yoyotech have been pretty good and despite them anything that my card was fine on their system they sent me another one that they also pre tested before sending it to me.

I have no other system to test it on and have shelled out an extra £130 for a new power supply

Is anything vibrating? Could be something like metal on metal contact? I had this before with myvery first system. It wasnt exactly coil whine, but it sounded pretty close to it.
It could be the motherboard, can you get that tested?

It's definitely without a doubt the gpu I can even change the pitch by moving the voltage about. I have no spare motherboard or a system I could test it in all I can do is buy another but my budget would be small so I will end up with a poo board

Sadly you can't do anything about the coil whine. Try it at friend's PC. But don't waste money on PSU. It is just the nature of electronics. Try running it at lower FPS.

If its the g card then this is normal. My old 970 used to do it under load and was fine OC'd or stock. Its just the way it was, luck of the draw, though some sellers (I think Overclockers) do / did sell g cards with no coil whine guaranteed. If its the PSU depending on the manufacturer it might be call for an RMA. My friends Corsair 750w had bad coil whine. Spoke to Corsair who said it was cause for an RMA and they replaced it without fuss. Hope you get sorted, is a very annoying noise / thing :)

The first point to look at is always the PSU. If you had not swapped out your PSU i would have asked you to check the voltage on a couple of rails. You had a corsair PSU and from what i have seen they take extra steps to prevent PSU coil whine with the RM series. If you have already swapped your PSU have you heard any coil whine without your GPU? have you tried putting the GPU in a different socket? (as daft as it sounds on my last motherboard i was getting really bad coil whine but only in the top socket - the board had developed a fault and was RMA'd)

what gpu are we talking about dont see it mentioned?? how is it powered single 8pin single 6pin dual 8's or an 8 and 6. if its the dual connector type are you using a daisy chained connector or 2 separate ones from the psu??

It's a gtx 1080ti founders. I'm running cablemid full replacement cable set so no extensions. One 6pin one 8 pin. Second card was just as loud as first after rma so I've decided to try something else and used the step up program and stepped up to a 1080ti ICX 3 black edition which also fits my block and see if that's any better.

Coil "whine" is vibrating. It's caused by the coils buzzing and vibrating.

In my X99 rig my Fury X never made a sound. Put it in the X79 rig? the "whine" even comes through the speakers. I've tried grounding off the board properly and etc. I ended up reading that it was a combination of the board, GPU and sound card. Not bothered changing or removing anything, I just don't game on this rig with headphones on. It's nowhere near as bad then.

Which is what I suspect is the cause of yours Steve. Which is also why I would either learn to live with it or send the GPU back and demand another one, because it could get extremely costly trying to figure it out. I mean hell, it might even be being caused by your house.

I have already replaced every component in my rig upgrading to many lake at the same time. I have already RMA'D my 1080ti once and got a louder card and have now stepped up to a SC black edition that should arrive next week which I hope will be silent.

Your mention if the sound card is interesting as that is the only component in my rig I have not swapped out.

What in my house could be causing it because I've got my new card and yet again I have cool whine it's getting very frustrating

I'm not sure dude. Did you see that guy recently that was getting interference on certain GPUs?

I'm not an expert on the subject tbh. Poor ground?
