Degraded Raid Array

As the title says the raid 1 array on my home server shows up as "Degraded" on the post screen of the raid card. However above that it also shows both my WD green 2TB as "Healthy".
What does it mean, when the array is degraded? How can I fix it? Should I take out the drives and test them individually?

A typical case where a RAID enters degraded mode is a simple two-drive mirror after a power failure-- it is unlikely the drives are in sync. (...) The RAID controller (...) will start a background resync (rebuild) operation.

I read that but I couldn't think of a reason why they would be unsynced, I'm now rebuilding the array (which takes for ever), hopefully it will fix it.
